have a go at what can be seen..

Middle ground right to left...

• Hamakua Coast

• Waimea

• South Kohala

• Coastline North from Kawaihae

Background..

• Haleakala

• Light of Oahu

Kionakapahu Pond? Think I'll give up if that's not right, I have other things to do.

All I can say is that it is most definitely not Lake Waiau. Got to get back to work...

Looks Waipi‘o Valley-ish somewhere along the Wailoa Stream to me, but I could not say exactly where.

Jeeze, take a breath.  You've missed some things. Want to add those?

ish?

I don't suppose that's an actual guess.. but no it ain't the Wailoa, although you're closer than Green Lake.

I like that pic, taken with a Sietz Roundshot on Kodachrome film, though find it difficult to capture the true essence of 'green shots' like that. Maybe over time I'll share more..

btw.. I suspect that north of 90% of folks here know this pic's location.. some having been in the very spot it was taken several times.. that's why I originally said I thought it would be an easy one..

On TomK’s photo at post #82, it might be too obvious, but the Milky Way.

MyManao’s photo at post #89.  I can’t guess at a precise location yet, but is it somewhere along the stretch of old Hamakua road that winds parallel and mauka to the highway?  The narrow road with all of the small old bridges over the many streams that flow down the northern side of Mauna Kea?

The location of the Cat Rock (post # 73) can be found on Napau Trail about 1/2 mile (?) before you reach Maunaulu, to the right of the number 4 with a circle around it on the map photo. On the right side of the trail.

With respect to MyManao's picture:

That is a good guess HOTPE!

I too an stuck on an exact location, but now I am wondering if it could it be on the "The Scenic Four-Mile Drive" off of Highway 19 at the start of the Hamakua coast drive?

Yes, you're correct of course. I was wondering if anyone would mention which part of the Milky Way, although it's not that important.

PS. I understand why HOTPE recused himself. The photo was taken on the cliffs at the bottom of Paradise Drive in HPP just before sunset many years ago.
