You guys are just getting plain trolled by the guy who carries water for Josh Green's LNG expansion at the expense of renewable energy.  He's just laying down chaff because he has been exposed for total hypocrisy.  He believes his ever expanding, increasingly disturbing, false virtue signaling speil, right up until it actually matters and then it goes out the window because, "solidarity".  Future generations of humans, animals, insects, etc., and the future of "The Mother" are not his true concern.  Don't fall for the ruse.  Party and LNG company "investments" uber alles.

Kudos to Ironyak for remaining true to his beliefs.  Ironyak actually has a North Star.  You may not agree with him, and he may even light your okole on fire now and then, but at least you know he's real.

With The Troll, it's all about deflection and slippery slime.  He has no North Star.  He is a very sad energy vampire who gets off on all of your attention. Don't feed The Troll.

You want me to quote the entire thread to this point instead? That seems entirely reasonable. But at least you do think I'm cutesy. <3

In all honesty, many of you it seems. Punaweb increasingly reminds me of the dayroom in a retirement community which much is said, little is heard, and even less is understood. I hope you all have others looking out for you as the signs of diminished capacities (like this whole copying and pasting whatever AI tells you) is pretty stark and concerning.

At least you had the common sense not to post a video.
Common sense because? I live off-grid so I get a free pass on everything else I do. Especially if I know better than tens-of-thousands of scientists around the world - rejecting anything that requires any responsibility to others gives me carte blanche to do whatever I want.

Or, we could just be adults and deal with reality as this is really not a hard concept - collectively we're generating tons of waste and displacing it onto future generations to deal with. To be generating that waste to create silly cartoons because some are too lazy to learn Paint, or gasp, how to draw and paint, is particularly indicative of the selfish, drive through, instant gratification culture that we're immersed in.

But there are other ways, some of them even local and on island. 99.9+% of all humanity, including everyone on Punaweb, lived without "AI" and its pointless pollution - I'm sure we could all do so again, should we care enough to do so.

Don't feed The Troll.

While the Tang barrels down Saddle Road, passing cars in the no passing lane while towing the 48-foot overloaded and overweight semi-trailer with his diesel belching 4MPG semi tractor of pure hypocrisy.

Yeah, don't feed that damned troll.

So the pertinent question should be:  Will AI reduce or increase our species' carbon footprint?    Seems to me it's an open question at this time.

And how about water use?  That's also a concern.

Agreed, Durian Fiend.

It could vastly decrease the carbon footprint. If we simply had the political will to mandate at the Federal, State and Local levels that all AI Data Centers be built using its own non fossil fueled power generation and closed loop cooling systems needed to run it.

Kane - You’re not seeing the full picture because you’ve been misled by tunnel-vision commentators peddling fear-driven nonsense.

Actually kane, you have no idea what I know and what my sources of information are. Seriously man, my business partner, we own a software development company together and he is the head of the back end programming and I the front, happens to be, in his ‘day job’ the chief electrical engineer for a major power company based in the Midwest. And, currently, the project lead for interfacing with data centers being built and tied into their grid.

Data centers are monstrous buildings that consume massive amounts of electricity and water, and emit tremendous amounts of heat. Your trying to soft sell that fact is embarrassing.

So, kane, stop with your silly assumptions, and rather than slinging mud be accountable for yourself. I ain't asking wahine what she drives, the costs of all those plane rides she boast about, or you, why you hate so many Americans, I just said you’re making silly looking art that comes at a price.. and omg instead of just being happy as pie with your ridiculous cartoons I struck a nerve. I mean look, page after page all driven by Tom’s feigned fears and you two lapping them up.. no pics.. just fear. So, instead of whining just make your stupid pictures already. Or, conversely.. go have a garden party at Tom’s. You know, get out and smell the flowers once in a while. Or, if that is a little too scary for you, you could always just make an AI cartoon of you doing it.

But, hey, I have one question before I give it up, do you and wahine wear matching aloha wear? You know, the his and her's cutesy shorts and skirts with the aloha shirts to match? That’s what comes to mind whenever I see you two tag team posts.. a couple old folks waddling around in Hilo Hattie’s finest..

But for real… look at the real picture, kane, you’re defending the indefensible.

As to Fiend’s question.. yes, how much does a data center, all the data centers, actually cost us?

From.. https://newsroom.ucla.edu/stories/opinio...e-must-act

AI is destroying our planet. We must act to check its growth — and save ourselves
By treating their vision of AI as inevitable rather than a choice big tech leaders seek to pull the ultimate con job

Where it begins..

Although the topic of AI is seemingly inescapable, its stunning environmental impacts remained mostly hidden. New studies reveal a clearer picture — one that should spur us to take action this year. Evidence shows that AI’s carbon emissions last year were equivalent to the entirety of New York City; and consumption of freshwater resources from 2025 alone exceeded the global consumption of bottled water.

Corporate AI’s destructive impacts on our planet are only set to expand. Consider that by 2034, the data centers that power AI are expected to consume as much energy as all of India, the world’s most populous country with over 1.5 billion people.

AI proponents may want us to think that AI only lives online, in the “cloud”, but the reality is big tech’s AI systems rely upon vast amounts of minerals, water and energy, all of which have a very real physical footprint. The prices we pay for energy and drinking water are increasing, and new data centers are straining existing energy grids. The increased energy costs are being passed onto everyday households.

My Manao,

Where have I boasted about plane flights?

Carry on with your mindless insults. It's what you're best at.

It's a shame you can't answer some simple questions.

Evidently, narcissistic bragging about your job is perfectly acceptable, eh?

The nerve was struck with Kane's first post. Once Tom said he liked it, you couldn't trip over your d*ck fast enough to comment...lol

I regularly see mistakes in obviously AI composed and posted content.  Parade was (is?) a Sunday supplement in newspapers from way back.  They have an online presence which recently included:

Produced by George Harrison of The Beatles, the recording featured Harrison contributing slide guitar while fellow Beatle Leon Russell added piano.
https://parade.com/entertainment/1971-ro...ted-states

There’s no contact info for the writer, so the mistake will stand, probably forever.  Even when there is an email contact, AI written stories rarely change their errors, because the point of using AI is that it’s fast, efficient if not accurate, and once completed it’s done, move on to the next.  No time for review, corrections, or interacting with readers.  I say this from experience.  These mistakes for entertainment related material have relatively minor consequences, but the same thing is happening in science, medical, and politics.

Last week the New York Times had 3 different articles about Puna and Kona, all with accurate reporting.  Not sure what happens to the details of those reports once they hit TwitterX, but peanut gallery comments get scraped and ultra processed into internet fodder.  Which gets scraped and reconstituted into an endless cycle of misinformation, now with incorrect source material included.

I look forward to the day when Grok finds my old User Title claiming I was a 5th Beatle.  Maybe I’ll get AI interviewed for a quote.  I’ll tell them it was great (being a 5th Beatle) and I was living my best life when I played kazoo with John, Paul, George, Ringo, and Leon.
