Please forgive me for getting off topic here and circling back to groceries. I took my own advice and made my family some Avocado Toast which was nearly free but I will attempt (with my well known low IQ and triggering, lazy, inattention to detail) to assign realistic values for those who genuinely care about eating in this place with the most expensive groceries in the country (see thread title).
Please let me start by saying that the hostilities have reached such a sad point here on Punaweb, that I am, for security reasons, once again utilizing a photo from Perplexity.ai which was introduced to me here on Punaweb. Please forgive me if you find this triggering.
We like avocado toast. We make our own sourdough bread and it's legendary. We use the organic flour from Costco mostly but will grab Organic King Aurthur Flour at Malama in a pinch. The cost in that case is wildly different but let's go with King Aurthur for our costs so we hopefully get less trolled, at least on that point.
We often like an egg on our avocado toast and I have selected an uncannily representative photo from Perplexity.ai. We get almost all of our eggs and avocados for free because we network in our neighborhood and we reciprocate which is something everyone should learn to do if they have not already. The abundance multiplies. It is the secret of the original Hawaiian economy. Someone hands you something and you have two "problems". Who do I give half of this to and what can I give the person who just handed this to me. Exponential abundance. Scarcity is not the natural state of things - Abundance is.
But on the rare occasions when we buy eggs with cash, we pay top dollar to people we know who produce eggs for cash and do it the right way. Same goes for avos. Let's assume you buy both at Malama Market, again to avoid the trolling.
$10 of flour gets us 50 or more thick slices of sourdough. - $10/50= $.20 per slice/avocado toast
$10 of avocados makes 6 or more avocado toasts . - $10/6= $1.67 per avocado toast
$10 of eggs makes 12 avocado toasts. $10/12= $.83
$.10 of salt makes 3 avocado toasts. $.10/3=$.04 (rounded up)
$.05 of water makes 3 avocado toasts $.05/3=$.02 (rounded up)
$.30 of Hawaiian Electric to make 3 avocado toast (baking bread, cooking egg, toasting toast) $.30/3=$.10 per avocado toast.

Total cost for a thick, belly busting, organic, golden yoke egg, creamy avocado toast - $2.86 (hopefully - I'm low IQ and have difficulty with math and I'm too lazy to double check.) LMK.
Or you can do it our way for less than $1 per slice of ono avo toast. (this includes styling out the neighbors who style us out and some who don't)
EnJoy!
