Aloha Vic: just wanted to make sure that you are aware of the Sunday Farmer's mkt held for now at the Nanawale longhouse (community center). Before the fire at Luquin's last year, the mkt was in Pahoa Village, and there is talk about moving it to the new Pahoa Park in the near future. In the meantime, however, any visit to your land that includes a Sunday should find you at the longhouse schmoozing, talking story, and making new friends. Be sure to find Madie Green and introduce yourselves - she will be able to set you up with like-minded people in a heartbeat.
Blessings, and best of luck...

There ARE some local FB pages you might want to join before you're here. Just search for pages with Puna, Big Island, or neighborhood you're looking into in the name. I belong to HPP Next Door.

I have also felt like puna talk has been invaluable. I have learned lots over the last year or so. Thanks for all the replies and friends requests. @ Dayna, lots of posts work just fine!
I like the term talk story, although in my present life style that is difficult as I never feel I have the time, but something I will want to explore and hopefully enjoy!
They had moved the market to the long house just after I was there last time so will definitely check it out when we get there.
Cant wait to live in Puna!
