HotPE, you're conflating two issues. Just because *that*s a shit-show doesn't mean there isn't room for improvement here. Every time we gloss over the waste in our spending, every time we indulge in frivolous social engineering, we are just giving ammo to the other side.
MyManao, only in that I know plenty of people with *useless* liberal arts degrees that never got a job in their field and then settled for much less satisfying work at a lower wage than if they had just chosen a more realistic major in the first place. Maybe college loans (or grants!) should be proportional to the jobs waiting in that field.

Maybe people should just be allowed to pursue whatever education track they might like without criticism.

Every person I know who studied what might be considered useless liberal arts degrees, photography, stained glass, English major, library studies, dance, etc have worked in their chosen field all of their lives.

People
are free to pursue any education they desire. I also think the US Constitution allows others to criticise their choices. Perhaps you don't like the criticism, but it's undoubtedly not unlawful or unconstitutional.

The supremes allow and disallow.. and right now they are actively destroying the whole damn thing..
Criticism is all well and good.. when it's offered by those that know what they are taking about. Criticism offered by the uninformed is mob rule.. a waste of time and breath.
And besides.. who needs a civics lesson from a foreigner?

It's a free country, they can pursue it. Just without my tax dollars, and with some healthy criticism!

And the hits keep on coming to the Big island and Hawaii:
Reminds me of the poster back when I was a grade school kid in the late 1960's.
Some things never change do they now?

Recessions package passed by Congress clawed back $1.1 billion from public broadcast funding that was previously approved. These funds constitute up to 20% of local budgets for some local stations in Hawaii that many listeners rely on, especially in rural locations. For those who want to help out and can, please consider donation options for
Hawaii Public Radio and
PBS Hawaii.

"Hawaii’s public broadcasting stations are scrambling to make up for a sudden loss in federal funding — forcing Hawaii Public Radio to pull from reserves and hold an emergency fundraising drive, as PBS Hawaii said it remains committed to its community emergency preparedness mission despite the financial strain.
Congress on Friday slashed $1.1 billion in funding to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which distributes 70% of its funding to more than 1,500 locally owned public radio and television stations across the country that serve as key news outlets and emergency lifelines.
The cut means Public Broadcasting Service Hawaii is losing 20% of its annual revenue, while smaller radio stations on neighbor islands like Kauai Community Radio are also left to make up for a 20% loss in overall funding." (more at link)
