Big Island Organizations & Programs Losing Funding
Did "the guy" testify before Congress this week?  I hope they served alcohol on the flight to DC.  If "the guy" I'm talking about is roaming The Acres, you might want to keep a close eye on your beagle.

First and foremost, Barney identifies as a Jack Russell and not a Beagle, and I must say, Barney is quite surprised and shocked and very upset that you are seemingly trying to interject National Politics into little ole PunaWeb. At least his anger at your attempts at this blatant interjection has given him a break from chasing the endless amount of Puna lemmings!

The Hele-On is free!  In Puna!
You’re either on the bus or off the bus as the Merry Pranksters noted, yet even at the low carbon price of free, some just won’t get on the bus. In Puna.

There are two riders on the bus conspicuously wearing the same hat, all of the sudden.  It's not red but still it has the holiday spirit.  Time to head to Kaimu!  Aloha PW.

testifying before congress… It is as relevant, and more, to Puna as any of the above whinging.

No it’s not.

I can start a thread if that is preferred.

Don’t.

Keaau Natural Foods recently lost their ability to process EBT purchases as well.  My understanding is that once revoked they cannot reapply for EBT/SNAP acceptance for 6 months.  Stores have employees.  Employees are trained, and informed of proper procedures.  If they don’t follow it to the letter, the owner suffers.

Just got back from Keaau Natural Foods.  They are accepting EBT now.  To be fair, this was not a Fed trap, it was a paperwork snafu.  The owner is retiring and the company is undergoing some changes.  I had initially heard it would be 6 weeks, not 6 months, and it didn't even take it that long to be corrected.  I'm glad, because I really like that store.  I've been shopping there since it's previous location across the street.

I repeat, Keaau Natural Foods is now accepting EBT.  Please spread the word and give them some business to help them overcome the down time.

I like Kea'au Natural Foods, as well...they often have bulk herbs and spices that the Natch is out of, and I've gotten some really good markdowns and new products to try. Glad the snafu got figured out, and also glad they are going to stay open, even with the owner's retirement...would have hated to lose another good independent business.

Maybe this next question of mine oughta be in the "Food Resources for Resilient Punawebbers" thread, but...what the heck.

Does anyone shop at Kilauea Market in Hilo? Kinda tucked in diagonal from the Natch and Ola Brewery? Haven't checked it out but keep meaning to on one of my rare trips to Hilo.

I haven’t been there in awhile, but they have (had) a good selection of produce, Asian greens, veggies, and root crops perhaps even more extensive than KTA.  I used to buy boxes of ginger and turmeric from them.  Lots of canned and bottle items that better have an English description on the shelf price listing, or who knows what’s inside?  Great selection of woks and other cookware, and other household items.

Great store.

Wes was concerned about passing his store on to a new owner/owners.   I hope they can keep it going successfully.

Somehow we stopped going there about 15 years ago.  It was pretty far out of our way.  Given the highlighting of KNF's situation, here, by 2 Cents and PKF,  we will make a point of spreading some good energy there.  Thanks for the heads up.

My statement is true.  Your's might be true if the subset is the reporteratti and/or the closed of mind.  For now,  I'll take the W on "whinging".  Meet people where they are.  Use what you have.  Do what you can.

Have an amazing week Punaweb.

I hope these important EBT farming operations are not affected. It would be terrible if folks on the dole were not able to get free-range organic chicken at $20/lb, or they/them chia seeds from fair-trade Peruvian shamans, etc.

Still though, dick move playing gotcha with our local businesses just because someone made an honest mistake.
