how would I feel if the electric company charged me a different rate than business or industrial customers
The electric company installed the poles, they ran the wires. It's their system, so why not set rates as they see fit within the boundaries set for a utility? A generous 12% profit a year, which over time is as good as it gets for an essentially risk free investment.
At least water utilities can't restrict consumption, bill businesses, agriculture, and residential users differently
Like any business, wholesale is cheaper than retail. Buy in bulk, it's why people shop at Costco.
Net neutrality has nothing to do with bringing the internet to rural locations.
Nobody said it did. If rural customers are connected to the internet however, and unrestricted in their ability to use services on the internet, it provides them with the ability to choose what's best for them, not what's best for their service provider. They should be able to choose how they interact with the world.
Their service provider doesn't own a proprietary system developed in a self funded R&D department. The end user if they are a taxpayer, played that role when they sent in their 1040 tax return every year funding DARPA and universities to innovate the concept, design, and implementation of the internet. They should get something for their investment, like net neutrality. AT&T, Verizon, Spectrum, etc are internet carpetbaggers, swooping in and trying to make off with the goods.

That is a correct analysis.

As I posted before, just look at the price menu for "internet" in Portugal and you'll see what the lack of net neutrality does.

How about an extra $5 a month to just to access punaweb.org? Or another $15/month for netflix access? Want to search for a possible alternative internet service provider in your area...sorry those results are blocked.

Yep, same feeling here although I'd describe it as a little more than deflating. If such a campaign by Tulsi needs donations, it could be better done by asking for donations before you give them an email address.

PS. I was wondering what would happen if I put "$-50" as a donation. Would they send me a check?

I don't see it as "just a scheme" but rather a reality, she, as all politicians, need a revenue stream to do their thing. If you were her you'd be spending a large portion of your time doing the same. So when someone says, as you did, that this whole thing is a put up job to shake you down for money you are being naive. Your signature is still a valid contribution to a cause. It's just a shame you and all the others that think the request for donations belittle the effort are so small minded.

She could have mentioned donations before you signed up for the petition. It doesn't come across as particularly honest that you only learn about the request for donations after you've sent them your email - which they can use or abuse to their heart's content.

That's correct Eric. As for the comments on Rep. Gabbard's "not mentioning" contribution requests first thing and up front in a sure sign of a lack of experience with politics today.
The ISP's are about to rape and plunder you (they may go slow at first) and you complain about a politician's
request for contributions? You don't have to give if you don't want to.
Just use their Twitter or Facebook accounts or official government (congressional) site.
Although, after the ISP's finish with you after Net Neutrality goes away, you'll be wishing for the
good old days of Net Neutrality.

I fully agree with your reply.

If you don't like Tulsi's method to voice your concern about net neutrality here's another site you can use. When you click the link a pop up should appear asking for your phone number, which they will use only to connect your call to your representative. And please naysayers, don't say it's a scam. Boing Boing has been on the forefront leading the charge for net neutrality since before the last FCC vote.
Focus on maintaining your right to net neutrality, not arguing among yourselves on unrelated incidental issues:

And a few others...
https://5calls.org/issue/defend-fcc-net-neutrality has a good article, script and contact info to call Ajit Pai, FCC Chairman at 202-418-1000
You can call your congressman at:
https://www.battleforthenet.com
There is a good article, and a link (with instructions) to the FCC website where there is a form/method to add your comments to the FCC proceedings at:
https://venturebeat.com/2017/05/08/how-t...eutrality/
Protest at Verizon stores on Dec 7:
http://VerizonProtests.com though they don't list any known protests on Hawaii Island, does anyone know otherwise?
Interestingly, Wired Mag has an article about all this here:
https://www.wired.com/story/keep-net-neu...ght-going/
where one of their points is Vote With Your Wallet, which they suggest, if you can, would be to support an ISP that supports Net Neutrality. Though I would add in our reality it also means support our congressional representatives. Go Tulsi!
