There was no "all about me swipe".  Is it possible that you misunderstood his comment where he opines on the current political climate where one is able to speak more freely as opposed to "four years ago, it wasn't like that."?

This link goes straight to Brenton Awa's brief, astute commentary and questioning at 39:23 on the meeting timeline. Judge for yourselves.

We have to give Brenton Awa credit for reading the tea leaves and recognizing that the way to have an effective political career in this state is to garner the support of the elements represented in that room.  A dose of realpolitik at the right place and the right time.

Awa definitely appears to be destined for greater things. We can hope.

Absolutely no misunderstanding on my part Tang!

So, what you're saying is that back four years ago when Awa said that a respected Hawaiian leader “would have been hung” for criticizing him or when Awa said about Josh Green that “The governor is from Pennsylvania. I’m native from this place and I’ll leave it at that” is now in today's current political climate 100% acceptable things to say.

Got it Tang. Unfortunately, in as much as I agree that today's political climate makes those types of statements totally acceptable, I find those who think those comments are fine to make to truly just be degenerate human beings.

And then begs the question, did Awa vote for Devens because he felt he was the right man for the job, or in fear that Devens might just "hang" him if he criticized him?

No, none of that nonsense is what I am saying. I am saying exactly what I said which is that there was no "all about me swipe" because, there was none - which anyone with full faculties may verify for themselves here:

young Brenton, who did manage to get in just one little "all about me" swipe

For those of us who haven’t watched the entire meeting, is it possible:

HiloJulie: quote the swipe (in context if possible) or provide a link and time if it’s a video?
Punatang:  reply with your reaction to Awa’s comment if it’s posted?

My apologies. The Tang did post the video at the start time where Awa starts by saying "...lighten it up..." "gets up here and says hey local boy..." "born and raised..." "...4 years ago wasn't like that..."

I guess then the question is also what was different 4 years ago?

At any event, I'd love to hear the Tang's opinion of what Awa said 4 years ago as well.
