So does that mean that it will take six weeks to get here instead of a month?
Certainty will be the death of us.

Ugh. Just when I was actually occasionally seeing small GA pkgs arriving in less than a week and getting all happy, USPS pulls the rug out from under us again.
So, yeah, back to waiting 6 weeks for all parcels. Keep us trapped into overpaying for everything and pray you don't need anything wikiwiki. Lucky we live Hawaii, eh? *sigh* ETA: I just bought a set of bongos* online from a secondhand resale site for a super price (and free shipping since I'm a new buyer!) Of course they are coming GA. At this point figure they'll be a Xmas present to myself. * "I don't wanna work, I just wanna bang on my drum all day". It's the poor buggahs that don't have their certificates and have to take lessons to learn the back stroke before they can even dive on in that will take forever.. Funny aside.. I mail packages to Maui pretty regular.. and have an online USPS account, so I buy postage per my needs online.. and after I do the whole size and weight of the package thing it's always interesting to see the different prices and times it will take. They list at least 4 prices and times. Ground Advantage all the way up to flown on a private jet (or you'd think based on how much they're asking). For a small package anywhere from 7 bucks to well north of 30. But the clincher is.. they all get there in the exact same amount of time. Pay all or as little as you want but they all get there in 2 to 3 days. There is no ground.. no boat.. no other way for the USPS mail to go between the islands.. so everything flies. One thing to note, I haven't sent anything this month.. so maybe something has changed. Now it might be prudent to just throw your mail into Hilo Bay and hope for the currents to get it there?

In the past USPS contracted with Aloha Cargo or Transair, and I believe they still do. All mail is sorted and post marked in Honolulu, so you mail a letter from Volcano to Keaau, it goes from Volcano to Hilo PO to Hilo airport to Honolulu airport to Honolulu PO (the only place in the islands with automated sorting machines, to Honolulu airport to Hilo airport to Hilo PO to Keaau PO. I don’t think there’s an alternative. ……………. No alternative for interisland PO. But Amazon (direct order from Amazon, not listed on Amazon and shipped by independent business), Amazon flies their plane into Kona airport, then drops packages with USPS for last mile delivery. It’s presorted so placed on a truck from Kona to Hilo.

kalianna - So does that mean that it will take six weeks to get here instead of a month?
Or maybe the containers will fill more quickly in San Fran, so instead of items arriving in either 4 days or 4 weeks, there is just a more steady stream of items arriving every 2 or 3 weeks? Ultimately, who knows - don't have legal gambling in Hawai'i so have to make our bets on shipping times instead, just without the 3 day jackpots now. |
