Chris Igawa DDS charged $165 for a tooth extraction recently. My husband's face was all swollen up with a bad tooth and although they discussed other options (where Igawa would have made more $) he recommended the extraction. He said he might do a root canal and/or put in a crown but then the tooth might go bad again anyway. We already had recent x-rays, but other than that the entire procedure was $165, and no complications.

yes... the USA is pathetic. First they rape you on health care but for some reason eyes and teeth are not considered "HEALTH CARE"...
Sigh... I think the option for going to another country to get health care cheaper is probably your best bet! Esp, if you considering crowns and or implants. Tho, just like in the USA there are BAD dentists everywhere so try to find recommendations.
Hopefully one day the citizens will realize how badly we are getting screwed and wake up to the health care scams. Good Luck finding a cheap, reputable dentist I guess I can only offer you my own wisdom.
Buy a sonic care or oral B tooth brush. It really is a TRUE! An ounce of prevention is truly worth it's weight in gold!
FYI, Amazon has oral B sonic brushes 20 bucks off you can get a a cheap one for like 30 bucks after rebate and they will ship it to your door (yes even in hawaii) with no tax!

LOL my friends if you need DENTURES your in BIG trouble. I know someone close to me that has no teeth whatsoever! Has had upers done years ago but never used them because without lowers its fruitless! There are no programs to help. THIS IS a MEDICAL situation! He cannot eat most foods, his digestive system is compromised and his appearnce is to giving him NO self esteem! Medicare only covers adult extractions but he cannot get on QUEST because they claim he makes too much income!??He is on SSD. To make it worse the bay Dental clinic could not even put regular dentures in for him because his bone structure is screwed/ SOOOO, he will need all the lower teeth to be implants! around 4 Grand and extra 300 to re-fit the uppers he does not use. I agree that teeth should be considered medical. We need them to eat and digest etc. RIDICULOUS!

Okay so if you have quest will they help you with more them an extraction??? I have evercare and they only cover pullng teeth.
No, the only insurance that covers root canals and crowns is the kind you buy or if your employer offers a good dental plan. None of the need-based insurance will. Poor people get to lose their teeth here. (Unlike in California.)

My daughter was on medicaid, similar to quest and the dental was bad, so I purchased a plan from Hawaii dental.....

This is a very basic policy, but I purchased the better one of the two they offer. She was on it for about two years and it worked well. Unfortunately they only cover 50% of a root canal and that is after being with the plan for a full year, plus the plan has a $1000 a year max payout. The plan plus is about $40 a month. Most dentists in Hawaii take this insurance.
