We are buying two acres in FA. Does anyone know the aproximate cost of ripping the whole 2 acres. There are large old ohias that we would like to keep so can we use a D9 and keep the ohias? The land looks fairly level that we can see. Any good recommendations of a company.
The front of the property was ripped several years ago.

You can use a D9 and still keep trees, i'm unsure though do you mean keep them standing (alive) or keep them as in have the dozer operator pile them in a convenient stack after knocking them down?

As a caveat,
Unless you plan on utilizing all you intend to rip/roll then you are just paying for future headaches. A (large) 12,000 sq. ft. Residential lot is a lot of weeds to keep up with yard work - etc. 2 acres is ~ 8 times that much and a lot to maintain. Far be it from me to tell you what to do. I'd suggest fencing and putting down ground cover on any area you intend to clear - and 2 acres is a lot - i'd be sure you can handle it before you knock down that much forest.

Only Rip up what you want to maintain. Lots of NASTY invasives just waiting for the oportunity....

Please don't rip the entire lot. It is wrong on so many levels. Drive around looking at clearings that you would like to emulate. You'll likely find your house clearing requiring less that 1/2 acre. I cleared a 1/2 acre and a driveway and it requires a lot of work to keep the weeds down and basically getting it to a livable state. You'll likely need to bring in gravel for the clearing and driveway, so account for that as well. Make sure you don't expose your neighbors in the process.

After ripping and rolling costs, you may want to consider cinder costs to get it mower friendly. Figure around 16-17 truck loads (32 yards per load) of cinder per acre for 4" thickness of 1.5" minus. That will add another $6,200 per acre plus backhoe time to grade and compact it, if you want it a+ shape.
Rip and roll + Cinder, grade and compact is around $15k per acre done right for easy mowing maintenance.
We keep mowed near 3 acres ourselves. Grass for us just planted itself.

I gotta agree with Bluesboy. Unless you are plannning on using those two acres for a specific ag project then don't bulldoze it all. Call Nick Moore 960-4784. He can sculpt your lot with an excavator to accomodate a natural looking driveway and housepad. Bulldozing it flat will make a WalMart style parking lot and that is not the look that attracted anyone to Hawaii.

Welcome to Fern Acres. Do rip out any invasives from the earlier job. Keep as much natural as you can, but also keep in mind what you want to grow.

Was the front "ripped" or just "grubbed"? If it was already ripped then do not do anything there with the D9. Waste of money... Have the D9 carve a path in towards the back and then clear "almost pin to pin" for the clearing there. Leave the perimeter at the back nautural... You can hopefully get this done for 3,000- but you might want to pay more and get a "highly recommended operator"... I took my chances with someone else and did fine. I am assuming you are not planning an orchard or something because you said you wanted to keep the old Ohias. "Keeping the old Ohias" means that the jungle is pretty much undisturbed.. They are sensitive and I have lost some big ones next to my driveway already that I was trying to "keep". Ok, after the D9 leaves ( and I do recommend one for the drainage and if you want a lawn)- then you can go in and clear out the invasives in the front part by hand, and go around the natural perimeter of your lot- hand clearing under the tree canopy as well... You will have to truck in loads of gravel/cinder for the top of the driveway and to "finish" where to D9 cleared- and this can get expensive (about 400 per dump truck load, 2013)- so think it all through ahead of time and have a plan. Does the $6K include removing (
mostly pine) trees, too? Can a bulldozer really knock them down, or would they have to be cut down?
Also, would there be an additional fee to remove them off-site?
Normally, I would leave a lot of trees up - if they weren't all softwood pine trees. And even then, could just leave the logs and stumps in place on the ground...except I believe termites LOVE pine bark & trees - so I think that would only create a massive termite breeding ground?
