But, as with most bounties, they'll probably just breed more for the bounty!!! We need more cat fanatics & rogue helicopter pilots.... well, like we need any more of ANY of the Feral Invasives!!!
There is a trap, spay release program for cats, and some data shows that there may be good reasons behind this....but I still cannot condone ferals out in the open....but here is the reasoning, pg 2 of link:

I'd pay a small tax on pet food and supplies to fund the care of feral critters and address the damage being done due to the careless introduction of invasives and vectors.
On my travels I have seen some localities that address the issue by supplying food with birth control hormones added
This has long been a staple of pigeon control in countries where their droppings are eating away at the centuries old cathedrals and monuments
That program has evolved to control other disease vectors / ferals as well.
I have also seen a team of new zealand hunters eradicate goats - by tying a female in estrus to a pole and waiting for the males to come around - cheaper and more effective than helicopters.
Its about the resolve in addressing the issue, the solutions will follow if there is a community resolve imho.
Meanwhile in my opinion - the special interests are driving the invasive animal control buss. At the present level of "management" give it a few years and we'll be keeping an eye out for boa's on our hikes.
