Another shooting in Hilo
#11
Its illegal to carry a loaded gun on your person in Hawaii, why was this man carrying a gun?

Update:

http://bigislandnow.com/2013/01/03/hilo-...-underway/

Two attempted murder cases open, officers in stable condition, shooter still on the loose.

We still got a murderer out there from Bayfront shooting, and now this maniac. WTH![Sad!]

Anyone else wondering if the murderer from the Bayfront shooting might be the same guy who shot the cops?

FYI: (Per Police Scanner - HCPD) Another shooting on W. Palai St. Approx. 30 year old, male, self inflicted gunshot wound to abdomen. (Apparently still alive, on the way to Hilo Medical Center).

Rumors already flying. One being it may be the suspect in the shooting of the two officers. Waiting for more info.

Damn. Just so disturbing.

This is the relevant part of a Nixle email I got a few minutes ago, for those that haven't heard any updates:

"Media Release (update)

Hawai#699;i Island police have arrested a 31-year-old Hilo man in connection with a shooting Wednesday evening that injured two officers.

Shortly before 3:30 p.m. Thursday, a team of 20 law enforcement officers attempted to contact the suspect, 31-year-old Keaka D. Martin of Hilo, at a home on East Palai Street in Hilo. In addition to Hawai#699;i Police Department officers, the team included two Sheriff’s deputies and three FBI agents.

When the officers arrived, they heard a single gunshot from inside the house. They entered the residence and found Martin with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his chest.

He was arrested on suspicion of two counts of attempted first-degree murder and taken to Hilo Medical Center under police custody for treatment of his critical injuries.

Detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigations Section are continuing the attempted murder investigation."

I often ask myself how many of these guns used in low level criminal activity were stolen during a prior burglary, compounding the issue - my other place sits empty a lot..... the handguns are in the floor safe, I do not want them turned on me......
