I am planning on building a fence on the side of my house (for a dog run). Total of about 60 feet. My question is how do I get the posts in? The side yard has about a foot of gravel and then lava underneath. This is to keep in a large dog so I want it to be sturdy. Any suggestions?

Properly setting the posts will likely require a trailered air compressor and jack hammer or air drill. These can be rented. You will not be able to simply pound the posts into lava.
Assume the best and ask questions.

Yeah thats what I was afraid of. I think I may just try and find a fence company.

Probably a good idea. There is some skill involved and having it done right will serve you well for years.

let me say, between groans that this week we did another 45 holes in the lava, and are completing the 3 acres fenced. i am embarrassed to say, after asking here, we decided to go ahead and try the rock auger that home depot claims to have. you know the story, "if it seems too good to be true..." well, 200 dollars thrown away, we got 2 holes with it, it jumped all around. possibly if you have dirt, it might lift out field stones, but home depot swore it was a rock drill.... NOT!
anyway, puna rentals they have the air driven rock drill, mike ran the hammer, i ran the shop vac on my hands and knees and pulled out all the bigger little rocks that went in the holes. it started pouring rain, and i will testify to lava being acidic at the end of the day my hands were bright red and the skin has finally stopped sluffing off.... so, if you have alot more money than time or are alot younger than this old gal, find a fence guy! lol
