Bart Starr, the greatest quarterback in NFL history, passed away today.
For his 25th wedding anniversary he surprised his wife Cherry with a trip to “one of the most romantic settings on the planet,” Hawaii.

I rang up his lunch order on occasion, cheeseburger with ketchup & fried onions. He and his wife were two of the kindest people I’ve ever met. He was modest, soft spoken, the antithesis of a prima-donna sports celebrity. Once, my 8 year old sister who didn’t know any better, went over to his house for an autograph. He & Cherry invited her in, sat down and chatted for a few minutes and gave her a signed 8x10 glossy.
They don’t make them like Bart Starr any more.
