Ok to elaborate. Yes the highway will compromise life but it a shame that any other businesses or folks having to move could have stayed where they were without absorbing the expenses they had to endure for a lava flow that seems to never really make it to town

No one had to move from the Marketplace, and many have stayed.
All still have their lease in effect up until at least the notice for evacuation, which has not been given... T he same is true for all of Pahoa that has yet to have lava. Only the transfer station and one residence have been effected, and the residence was not occupied, as the renter had moved out prior to the lava flow impact.

We'll all have hovercrafts w/ no need for asphalt ... by the time this slow weak flow makes it to the hwy, and 1/2 of us will be dead of oldage when it pours into the ocean in 2054...

Nows the time... Maybe tear down malama and put in a "REAL" store for the people. Same goes for longs.

Based simply on the amount of people that shopped those 2 places on a daily basis, they were already, "real" stores for the people.

By that same measure, 7-11 is a "real" store too, but I wouldn't shop there if I didn't have to.
