Geothermal Asset Fund to undertake the impact study after hearing from Dedman and others. The planning commission voted to approve the release of $293,760 from the Geothermal Asset Fund to undertake the impact study. The commission also requested the planning department establish a Native Hawaiian Health Study Review Board that will provide advice in the conduct of the study. So happy to see that this is going to finally happen.
Palikapu really gives them a piece of his mind and doesn't hold anything back. Must watch. [

Why? So that $300,000 can be wasted on telling us that geothermal health fears are unwarranted and that the real issues come from the natural gasses released by the volcano, steam vents, etc., 24x7x365?

Why do we need a "Native Hawaiian" health study?

Worth watching the video. The study is to examine geothermal issues that may be unique to native Hawaiians, including psychological impacts from spiritual or religious concerns. Financed by Geothermal Asset Fund.
The health study group did not strongly consider these issues in their 2013 recommendations, so they are not likely included in the larger $750k health study previously approved by County Council.
Would have to see the RFP to be sure - supposed to be open for proposals this quarter.

Why do we need a "White Male Christian Landowner" study?

That is exactly why a health study is needed and should have been done over 30 years ago, BEFORE starting geothermal. How is spending Geothermal Asset Funds wasted on these activities?
Until a comprehensive health study is done, blaming long term health issues on natural background or geothermal exposure is largely speculation on both sides.
Accute health issues from blowouts and unabated releases from geothermal is much clearer and unexcusable. Having additional oversight by CDC and EPA should make this very clear soon.

A real study would include all workers at the various geothermal variations/plants from the 30 year period, as a control group. If they don't have health issues, how can anyone else claim to?
Whalesong thank you for your post and video. Loved to see the Hawaiian show some passion and emotion towards the future caring of our aina and its people. Don't know this man speaking in the video personally but he has my respect now and tomorrow. The Hawaiians seem so much stronger than the white hippie nimby folks when voicing their opinions or standing up for what they believe in. This gives me hope that some of these state and geothermal promised health studies may actually happen.
We may never know what really killed a few of our friends and family members so young in life or made so many others sick that were good neighbors to geothermal. Why has this state allowed such an experimental geothermal plant to continue to grow, produce, and profit while ignoring all possible health impacts or complaints by close living residents?.
Leilanidude you continue to amaze me with your usually short and to the point responses of calling those most affected by geo as liars and complainers. You never throw any factual literature to back up what you claim but you do a great job of instigating the arguments or discussions while you obviously side with the green clean geothermal. Your voice and opinions should be heard as so should those who are sick and tired of the way geothermal has been operating around these parts.
Palikapu was awesome, he seems to be a caring and knowledgeable Hawaiian who wants the best for his aina and family. We need more like him in these parts because we don't have the white mans money here to defend or protect this rare beautiful district.

Humans are humans. Just study the physiological impacts of PGV on humans please.

No. No it's not enough. Creates a seperate class of people. Besides are we that physiologically different? Enough to warrant a second study?
