Easy on the 'ad hominem' attacks. For the most part this has been a pretty good thread with lots of fact-based give and take. A big mahalo to geochem and ironyak for an informative process. They seem to disagree but are not disagreeable about it. Now the threads future is at risk with the recent additions (?) of mythology (Pandora and Pele), a red herring (magma), and what seems like a fear you have that somebody has been out to get you.

The idiom "red herring" is used to refer to something that misleads or distracts from the relevant or important issue.[1] It may be either a logical fallacy or a literary device that leads readers or characters towards a false conclusion.

Workers at Ormat, one of the world's largest geothermal producers, discovered the magma in October 2005 when they hit a chamber of the magma about a mile and a half down while drilling an injection well. The substance quickly rose about 20 feet up into the drill hole before becoming glasslike as it cooled. Ormat workers re-drilled the area several times, with the same result?

Again, what exactly is your point? That a magma chamber was drilled into in a known rift zone? It has happened before. That they pulled up several cores from the drilling site so that it could be studied? That they then capped that well and had to begin another one?

Interesting in that I got this info from retired head of Civil Defense and mayor Harry Kim. In community meetings he has said the location of geothermal on the Big Island is dangerous to the community. Who are you? Another receiving royalties or a paycheck at the expense of the danger it causes others? Seriously, who are you guys who so strongly support heavy industry in the middle of residential subdivisions which include schools? Who in their right mind would wish 24/7 drilling loud noises upon the elderly, children, families, schools...the list goes on and on?

What schools? No schools are close enough to the plant to have an issue.

Punatic007 - Be truthful. Did you move within range of the plant after it was built - or before? How far away are you?

And seriously, Harry Kim???
You're kidding, right? That man has turned into a caricature; lacking in seriousness , sacrificed to an unquenchable thirst for power and a sad need for reaffirmation.
FYI: I don't receive royalties or paychecks at the expense of anyone. I used to live in Kapoho, hung out at Kaimu, swam Queens Bath, walked the Pohiki road. Years before PGV was proposed and a stink in the air was all part of the day....
