it is my understanding that the rules are all the time , the main reason is that it is a violation ( that might not be the correct term ) or county traffic code that cars are not supposed to back out of a parking area into a roadway . as best as i understand it. also it is questionable the distance of the building to the road , is there really adequate room for parking , no one is really sure on exactly where the road is , survey pins ??

Can we please just shut the community center down so people will stop complaining?
Besides the questionable setback, there's also the possibility that the building is located in a "riparian corridor" with its own additional setbacks and environmental impact review, which was obviously never completed and would furthermore not be valid given the expired permit status. Clearly, it would be better for all involved if the building were condemned and razed. Volunteer fire station too, especially their catchment tank.
Once that's finished, we'll need a volunteer crew to remove all the pavement on 8 Road, because a paved surface merely encourages excessive speeds, creating an unsafe situation.
We will also have to remove all the HELCO poles, because people can use electricity for illicit purposes such as marijuana cultivation and the production of pornographic materials, both of which are a horrible blight on the community.
I was thinking the HELCO pole removal crew could also do a lot-by-lot survey to look for any buildings or other improvements which are possibly unsafe and/or unpermitted. Each and every one of these needs to be reported to the diligent Code Enforcement officials at County so they can be appropriately red-tagged, condemned, and razed.
Once the initial cleanup has been completed, we can move forward with the mandatory drug testing and income verification as is obviously necessary to rid this subdivision of undesirable characters and all the problems they bring.
God willing, I believe that Hawaiian Acres can be a shining example of peaceful coexistence. Praise our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

kala , I know your post was meant to be humor , but there are actually people that agree with some of it.
myself and a few other volunteers wanted to get street lights,to light up the intersection for night visability and emergency vehicles at each of the intersections, another group shot it down ,reason "light pollution ".
there are some that want no changes, no pavement, everything stays the same the way it was in 1950

Not quite, but people are free to take it that way.

What I want is for each subdivision to decide its future gentrification level, and for that chosen path to be made legally binding and a matter of public record.
If the majority of Hawaiian Acres landowners do not want gentrification in the form of road signage, street lights, electricity, broadband, etc., then let's settle the argument with a vote so we can get on with our lives.
All the other subdivisions, too, with clear direction for their existing associations and boards.
What we apparently have today is people moving into a subdivision with the idea that they're going to reshape it to suit their lifestyle. Endless time and money is then spent bickering over rules, arguing about permits and codes and procedural irregularities, hiring lawyers ... and guess what? NONE of that effort actually fills a pothole or installs a streetlight.
Do not suggest that I could "join HACA to make my voice heard", that board is too busy plotting its own overthrow and arguing about the fate of the community center. I contribute no money because I don't want any part of this dysfunction.

kala, i think you have something there , with the last wave of new comers moved into the acres the trend is to change everything. this new board of HACA is made up mostly of new people moved here in the last couple years same with HARC the same , out with the old in with the new. the new comers seem to find no value in the old residents , not interested in hearing what they have to say , but very quick to insult them , criticize ( and this is my favorite ) if you dont like it move.

What do you consider to be a newcomer? Not that it matters, since the people who are on HARC are literally the only people who care enough to apply, but several of us have been here for some time. I don't know about the residency history of the people on HACA. HARC has worked diligently to include all owners and residents in both maintenance and surveys. Please don't attempt to undermine our efforts by using false information. If you're going to undermine us, at least use the truth.

kala ,, I have to hand it to you bro , you see clearly and your view and perspective have often borne out that you are correct and witty ,,, but mostly correct . I cant understand how the special needs group here in the acres ,, cant read your post and just see the light . it cant be that hard to overcome hate ,, lies ,, deceit !
we are all adults here after all,, right ?
since iv discovered these posts iv been both amazed and astonished by the brilliance , vs. the outright stupidity , by the stunning beauty vs. ugly neighbors ,, by the lack of pity and tolerance vs. the willingness of many good folks just trying to feed the hungry,, make a buck ,, build a bus stop for our kids ,, vs.,, the drama queens and their evil minions working so hard to impede and obstruct , poison ! vs. the hard work and possibilities that good people ,, concerned citizens ,, neighbors ,, family and regular people that would benefit us all .
and finally I respect your opinions and your views,, they often balance my own and your perspective is to my view crystal clear ,, and funny ! some parts of these threads are so damn funny its sad ,,, and some parts are so damn sad that it gets to be funny ( because we all watch the haters and special needs folks among us,,,,, hinder ,, sabotage ,, lie cheat and steal just to fill their drama hole ,, that's soooo sad its funny . and for that I am sorry ,,, this thread and all the players in it are acting out our roles ,, some days its a toss up which way the humor flag is flying ,, some days I laugh ,, some I shake m head ,, im having a great time laughing at these folks ,, they know who they are ,,,, hahhahahahhahahahha
thank you for your part , aloha

Layla , I believe or i think the 4th saturday of each month , at the Hilo transfer station 9:00 to 4:00 that is the only place that i know of .
CF, no one is undermining your little group at HARC , you folks appointed yourselves to the position of board members and allow new board members ( by your own words on facebook ) after they have passed your probation period. some of your board members are not property owners and i am a firm believer that only property owner should be on the board as they have a vested interest in the subdivision. there is no false information , you folks have been on this board less then a year, more closely to less then 6 months . you invited an individual on to your board and kicked him off at the next meeting he attended because you did not like his opinions on the fact that the by laws needed to be followed .

Anyone who moves here expecting gentrification.
This is why each subdivision posture needs to be defined and published: the reality keeps coming as a huge surprise to people. If they knew what they were getting into, we could stop arguing about the changes. It's not changing.
