Actually those folks are pretty nice and try to keep the place cleaned up. Sometimes when Cost-U-Less has great deals on water, fruit, crackers, etc., I've taken spares to them and they are very grateful. No, I'm not giving them money.
There are several young women there. Here's an idea: anyone getting rid of purses or handbags? Fill them up with feminine protection products and donate to a homeless woman. Where do they get these supplies?
I don't know about an up-swing of crime in the area, but I just try to do the small amount I can. Anyone else willing?

At the 3.8 million asking price...
Exactly: very few things could turn a profit against that kind of mortgage, especially with the cost of bringing the building into "compliance".

when I was homeless and I felt poorly I would just watch the homeless women for a bit to feel better as they had it worse than me in every way. you can get clean heroin needles in many cities now but not a single one gives away tampons and pads.

+1, PM2. Come to think of it, wasn't Jesus homeless? And a drifter?

I was wondering if any of these homeless people are more or less captive of the island and would go back home if some one would buy them a plane ticket?

Vast majority on this island, are local to the island. They are already "home".

"Shin said she is considering using the location for a mix of residential and commercial spaces.
She said the purchase would be done through M.S. Petroleum Corporation, which she owns.
The 3.7-acre property, which was used as a bowling alley since 1960, was listed for sale for $3.75 million.
The property is less than a block from Penn Training &Fitness Center, owned by her son, famous mixed martial arts fighter BJ Penn.
M.S. Petroleum Corporation also is listed as the property owner for that site."

Condos on top of commercial does not sound like a public rec center...
