More than 40 years ago I bought some used aluminum corrugated roofing from a guy in Hilo. It's still on my shed and doesn't look any worse today than it did then. Alibaba sells stainless steel roofing, both plain and painted
http://www.alibaba.com/trade/search?fsb=y&IndexArea=product_en&CatId=&SearchText=stainless+steel+roofing How come nobody sells this in Hawaii? Opportunity knocking? Rob? It seems like a natural to go with your castle block.

yes, i have some aluminum roofing on a shed at my old house, still fine from about 1982. i don't see it for sale anymore either. stainless would also be great but wouldn't that be a lot heavier than the aluminum? but maybe safer to drink. my shed water doesn't go into the catchment..

In a lot of Chinese products, the words "stainless steel" and "galvanized steel" are used interchangeably when they mean galvanized steel.
It doesn't work the other way around, "galvanized steel" is never used to describe stainless steel.
Looking at the web site, some of it looks like they are describing stainless steel. If it is anywhere near as good as the crap Chinese stainless they put on appliances, I wouldn't want it on my roof.

Galvanized metal is magnetic, true stainless is not.

Peter, as Terracore pointed out, some of the "stainless" roofing on your link were galvanized, but there were some, of course those were mostly the higher priced listings, & I clicked on ~10 of the Stainless steel links & it seems all the ones I looked at turned out to be roll stock, so you would also need a corrugated roof roller...
I would love to find a supplier of SS roofing sold here for our eventual re-roofing (or good affordable aluminum, as then we would not need a galvanic separation between our frame & roof...

My aluminum roof was put up in 1976.Still looks new.
I added to my lanai's and used aluminum from HPM. They still roll it out in Shipman.

So does that mean if you overlapped the ends of a steel sheet and aluminum sheet and left it in the rain with weight on the overlap it would eventually turn into a twice as long piece of roofing by"auto welding"?[?]

Tada, not sure what you are referring to with "Auto welding"...
What we have noticed here, with our aluminum framed house, is that galvanic corrosion happens at some of the steel/aluminum contact points, so we have been more careful to isolate the two... stainless is less likely (but still can) have galvanic corrosion issues with the aluminum...

Thanks! Sometimes the seatpost or stem get auto welded in my bicycle frame and you have to wack it with a hammer. And pour down oil and PB blaster.
Maybe if you add a little salt???

Aloha Peter,
I was looking into stainless steel roofing when your post went up. I decided to bring in a few hundred sheets. The pricing seems competitive.
HPM and Home Depot have painted metal roofing for about $4.60 plf. Looks like I can put SS roofing on the dock for $4.00 plf.
I am taking orders. Only a hundred or so sheets available.
26 gage stainless grade 304 corrugated metal roofing. 33.5" wide by 144" long. 33.5 sf/sheet , ridge cap
I will also have a couple cases of SS roofing screws at a good price. 1" & 1-1/2".
50% deposit, balance on delivery. VISA/MC/Paypal
Once these are sold I can't predict when the next order will be. I am putting this on only Punaweb for a week and if there is still unreserved stock it will then go public on Craigslist.
email me at: castleb@aloha.net Subject line: SS roofing
