Many of us live at least 20 minutes away from receiving help from the police after a 911 call. I'd much rather have a motion-sensitive security light illuminate my yard or driveway in order to deter a potential home invasion or robbery than waiting for the police to arrive. I can't believe there are people who think this is such a terrible thing to do.

Friends just had a car parked in front of their gate this morning, blocking driveway. Driver claimed he ran out of gas and had just got back. Even in a best case scenario it's a dick move to leave your car blocking someone's driveway. Probably they were being scouted.
At least they are armed. Knowing them, guy is lucky he did not trespass further.

Maybe we are talking about different kind of lights, with different lumens. There is a home where they have taken security style floodlights and pointed them at the street so that anyone passing by gets temporarily blinded (seeing spots) walking or cycling makes passing this home even more challenging.
I would be much happier if these lights were motion sensitive and set so one would have to take a step or two down the driveway before the blinding light from the Ark of the Covenant is unleashed. As luck would have it, the lot across the street from this home is vacant. Otherwise I suspect there would be an issue, perhaps even a 'lighting arms race' as it were.

quote: Correct. I called the police today and inquired. The person who answered the phone said there was no permit required. I also contacted my insurance agent and asked what my insurance discount would be if I got a theft/fire alarm system and he said it "was around 10%". Depending on what you pay for insurance, the discount could subsidize much of the monthly monitoring fees.

Hysteria getting out of hand again. Can anybody validate this post is true?
