Last night's sunset
#11
DTisme,

"Anyone know what causes such a phenomenon?"

I don't think it was any particular phenomenon, just a fortunate arrangement of clouds (not fortunate for astronomers working at the summit!). We had several layers of cloud over the island that came from the SW. I suspect, given the different layers of cloud, we saw lots of reflected light plus other layers of cloud reflecting the reflected light. That can certainly result in some stunning colors! As the sun gets lower, then all those different layers are illuminated differently.

A photographer's dream!

"Red sky at night, sailors delight" didn't quite turn out as we received two inches of rain the next day.

I've been enjoying our "Puna Sunsets" for 29 years. They don't happen often enough, but when they do, I feast my eyes on them and tell anyone around me to look at them too. This latest one was one of the best I've ever seen [Smile]
