Wuhan Corona Virus Coming Soon? (Now Here)
State Health Director Bruce Anderson said...."As far as we know, the disease is not transmissible unless you become symptomatic, and then you’re worried mostly about people who are in close contact with the individual for prolonged periods of time.( I could  NOT  find this statement substantiated elsewhere ).   What I did find is posted below
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION
Can 2019-nCoV be caught from a person who presents no symptoms? Understanding the time when infected patients may spread the virus to others is critical for control efforts. Detailed medical information from people infected is needed to determine the infectious period of 2019-nCoV. According to recent reports, it may be possible that people infected with 2019-nCoV may be infectious before showing significant symptoms.

How long does the virus survive on surfaces? It is still not known how long the 2019-nCoV virus survives on surfaces, although preliminary information suggests the virus may survive a few hours or more. Simple disinfectants can kill the virus making it no longer possible to infect people.

(air systems)
We know about environmental contamination for MERS-CoV and finding RNA in air filtration systems (but not the live virus). However, for the new coronavirus, we still need to see the data and understand how transmission has been assessed.

CDC DIRECTOR, DR. REDFIELD
Asymptomatic transmission is highly concerning One of the more concerning aspects of the hyper-virulent coronavirus is that a person can transmit it to others while showing no symptoms."There's been good communication with our colleagues to confirm asymptomatic infection, to confirm asymptomatic transmission, to be able to get a better handle on the clinical spectrum of illness in China. What we don't know though is how much of the asymptomatic cases are driving transmission," said Redfield.”

Read this through your "The source is a known communist mouthpiece media outlet" glasses:

"Liu's article sent a clear signal that China would not stimulate the economy by rolling out another massive monetary stimulus...Therefore, to maintain a "tight balance," the Chinese economy will have to tighten its belt by curbing non-essential expenditures while expanding investment in a precise and targeted manner."

Regarding if the virus escaped a lab or not, I don't know that anybody (in the Chinese study) is specifically suggesting the virus is a bioweapon. While this is a multi-use facility they study viruses for a variety of reasons, including to cure other diseases. It could be a naturally occurring virus AND it could have escaped from the lab. The alleged fact that the lab was 280 meters from the seafood market and the bats that supposedly originated the virus are 900 miles away... logistically speaking I can see how some of these conclusions came to be.

Either keep this Hawaii or I will lock it up. Plenty of forums for conspiracy theories all over the internet. Not here.

I didn't see any plans there that specifically mentioned maintaining my safety and well-being - guess that's on me?

US military plans are for active duty personnel. But you’re not left out. Hawaii County prepared a pamphlet for civilians, in full color. With a quick read you should be good to go. Unless that is, should civil defense read Punaweb, and the many comments about how there’s only one way into Puna and one way out, which makes our district a perfect quarantine site. Then you’re definitely not good to go, you’re not going anywhere.

Reni, thank you for following up on the State Health Director's comment. With all the disagreement on where the virus came from, how deadly is it, subsequent exposures, etc., one thing that has been generally agreed upon is that it can be infectious before symptoms show up. This makes the spread much harder to control. I was appalled to see Mr. Anderson's statement in yesterday's Tribune and I commented on it, thinking that others would have the same reaction.

I guess people have just become accustomed to idiotic and extremely damaging statements coming from our government officials. Business as usual.

"Appalled" nails it. I am familiar with your posts and assumed the sarcasm. But if others picked up on it , I could not tell. They seem to be lost in ego battles.
Just couldn't let this disinformation ride on PW. This incorrect info could have serious consequences to those still trusting our State officials completely. (thanks for urging me to post).

Japan now has community transmission without traceable links to China. Japan's health minister urges the public to avoid crowds and "non-essential gatherings"

It's figured they either caught the virus in Japan or on the plane to Hawaii. The latter possibility is a big "Yikes", if it's true then there will be more cases here very soon.

This is what Anderson is quoted as saying according to the Hilo Trib:

As soon as the Department of Health was notified (Friday) morning, we began to gather information and work on tracking any close contacts. … It’s those individuals who we are most concerned about. As far as we know, the disease is not transmissible unless you become symptomatic, and then you’re worried mostly about people who are in close contact with the individual for prolonged periods of time.

I don't know who the "we" is he refers to, I suspect it's the Hawaii Dept. of Health, but it does seem contradictory to many seemingly reputable news sources. At the very least I think Anderson needs to explain to Hawaii citizens why he said what he did because I think the default position of most Hawaii citizens is that they don't believe a damn word anyone in authority says. And if no explanation occurs, it just means even more people distrusting anything the state does.

DoH said "it will get here sooner or later", and it did just that.
