Spectrum service down

Different provider? I thought Spectrum was the only cable/internet provider.
Serious question here. Do we have a choice? I thought the lines running down my street were owned by Spectrum.

We have Hawaiiantel fiber. It goes down a few times a month long enough to be an inconvenience.
Backup is cellular hotspot. Too expensive and slow for regular use. Hence = backup. Not for Netflix etc.
So I think we've narrowed things down. I have a backup, which is my cell phone. I can't do the same things as I can with Spectrum cable, but at least I can remain online in a limited way. I used it to ask Spectrum about the outage, but some seem that was a waste of my time. Given I couldn't do what I was working on at the time, it made no difference. This "backup" also allows me to contact someone else who may be able to take over what I was doing. However, I see no reason to subscribe to two cable providers when I will only use the second for the few times Spectrum goes down.
I will also add that I doubt many in Puna or even elsewhere on the island are able to pay for two cable connections plus their cell service. Perhaps Kalakoa is rich enough to do that, and good for him if that's the case, but assuming everyone else can follow what he recommends suggests to me he's a little out-of-touch. I don't think we were trying to solve the world's problems, just yours.

I think the people who are rich enough to afford two cable providers got that way by only having one.

The only reasonable backup is a cell connection, not another cable connection, and you lose bandwidth with a cell phone. It's yet another reason Kalakoa should not be taken seriously.

A backup system for internet is not laughable. I have (and I suppose kalakoa does as well) a mifi device for internet backup. Of course using a cell phone as a backup doesn't work well. With Verizon service and the mifi device, I get a solid connection and 10MB download speeds, enough for Webex's. Ask nicely and your cellular provider will even install an external antenna with a signal booster.

This time next year Starlink will likely be available at our latitude. Current users are getting about 150mb/s. They have been launching 60 satellites about every two weeks with nearly 1,000 already in service.
