Note that the "stuttering" wears the pressure switch down pretty fast. Burned out the built-in on a Shurflo this way.

I was worried the stuttering was going to speed up the demise of some component.

If your system has a bladder tank be sure to check for proper air pre-charge:

The "points" sets on the pressure switch can be filed with a thin points file as used on older cars using ignition Proints. They can become pitted and even stick together. I have done this 2-3 times over almost eleven years now. And,our switch was pretty old when we bought the house. I have had to adjust our switch a few times over the years, which is no biggie either. We have an ancient Stayright pump, which I believe to be the order final from when the house was built in 1996.
