There are a couple of different points to address here. The first is yes, there are trolls and they should be ignored, I'm certainly guilty of not doing that. However, we also have people posting misinformation. That is something that needs a response because if no one speaks up, especially those with expertise in the subject they bring up, some people will believe it despite it being nonsense. This and the "kahea na hoku i ka poe koa i ka aina hou" thread are perfect examples of this. Kander thinks the paper iquetzal wrote must be credible because it's well-written (it isn't, but that's an aside). I think it's nonsense because it's gobbledegook pseudo-science. I believe I have a right to point that out while iqutzal tells me to "f" off; clearly, iquetzal does not welcome criticism despite the fact that this is how science works.

So yes, ignore the trolls, but in this thread, it's someone pretending to do science and posting utter crap. And people should be made aware of that.

Tom,

Please. You made your point. I see no further purpose in belaboring it.
Assume the best and ask questions.

Fine, but I hope you have no problem the next time I respond to someone posting nonsense that some gullible people think is real.

The "kahea na hoku i ka poe koa i ka aina hou" thread set off my alarms and I wondered why anybody responded to it at all.

And I would hope you'd have enough humility to do so in such a way as to admit your own fallibility, and with enough compassion so as to recognize and honor the possibility that no matter how outlandish an idea is it might be right, and you wrong. But I suspect hell will freeze over before that happens.

I have an outlandish idea, that your statement is outlandish.  Wait, what?  Can that mean both ideas might be right? A Punaweb philospophical conundrum?

There is a fairy at the far end of my yard who would like to talk to you about outlandish claims. She thinks you might have a point. Will you meet her? She said she'd be very upset and inform the elves if you didn't believe she existed and did not talk to her in person. I also have a pet unicorn.
