Mauna Loa erupting

I noticed, looking at the lines of descent, that the area around where the vents are currently, I'll call it a breakpoint in the topography. If the vents are high (west) enough, they'll flow toward the highway and break left toward Waikaloa. Little lower, they'll break right and head towards Hilo. Assuming they are on the Mauna Kea side of the rift zone, which looks clear from the overflight photos they are.

Still don't have anything that tells me precisely where the vents are now, elevation and west/east wise. Hoping USGS tells us soon the elevation of the vents soon.

Went to Tractor Supply this morning before the panic buyers could clean them out. I was too late. Sold out of hay and alfalfa pellets, only a few bags of organic alfalfa pellets left ($10 more per bag). Also sold out of rabbit food, though they did have "high fiber" variety left. They are typically borderline sold out of stuff all the time anyways, so it wouldn't take many panic buyers to clean them out.

People in an ashfall situation may not want to let their animals graze on Pele's Hair, or maybe the animals won't eat forage with glass in it. Either way if you need livestock feed be aware of the situation. I didn't go to Mirandas, you might want to start your search there. Walmart had plenty of the livestock feed they normally carry including rabbit food in 25# bags.

Social media reporting people hoard buying TP and cases of water again. I didn't see that at Walmart but I was also there pretty early. The gas stations I drove by did have lines that seemed longer than usual.

Ikaika Marzo's FB page has an updated post from 11:55 am this morning, Monday, 11/28. Shows the fountains on the west side now, new fissure. You don't need to be on FB to read his page.

"New fissure opened up on the 11,000ft elevation level and looks like to be on the western part of the caldera."

That appears to be a different video, taken from the same location as a vid posted further down the same page a few hours earlier, that credited the location as on the north flank..

Also, there is no, at this point, signs anywhere.. ie HVO cameras and seismic stations monitoring the west side, showing anything.

And.. btw.. looking at the photos stations data, and following the eqs and such, I'm betting the vents have already begun to migrate further east a few hours ago..

Unless I misunderstand the cartography, the map shows the rift zones and where the 3 known erupting fissures are, I don't see flow information.

That’s just about where I thought those fissures were. That’s on the west side of the break point, so I’d expect the flows to head right toward the highway (north) for awhile before turning NW and running alongside the highway through the training grounds.

If the above happens, Waikaloa is the end of a flow like that. I don’t wanna create a panic, neither does USGS, just saying. It would need to be a sustained and energetic eruption to reach the ocean.

As USGS Volcanoes said: "This preliminary map of the eruptive activity at Mauna Loa shows the location of three fissures erupting on the Northeast Rift Zone. We will be providing a more detailed map once our field crews have reported flow locations."

Flows have gone couple miles from the vents and then the fronts stagnated.

Eruption is still getting established and may or may not continue (1975 eruption = 22 hours, 1984 eruption = 3 weeks)
