And I imagine you thought your post is witty. But hey, don't stop, I like laughing..
Well you imagined wrong. Again.
But nonetheless, I bet you grinned from ear to ear, maybe even hi fived the air as you posted your retort thinking you are the epitome of wit.
But for a guy who displays an alarming obsession with a male poster here on PunaWeb, along with calling women vile disgusting misogynist terms, I wonder what everyone else is imagining about you?
At any event, it’s time for me to strap my dog Barney to his doggie bed and force feed him dozens of prescription drugs that my “therapist” prescribes me so he can sleep in a catatonic drugged up state during any loud fireworks going off.
(The last part about drugging my dog and my therapist are made in sarcasm only, and is in no way reflective of the truth or reality of the situation. Further, since we are on a well oversized solar system, whenever the brain trusts start their carbon belching fireworks displays, I simply put Barney in the bedroom with all the windows closed and turn in the air conditioning.)

Who is Damon? Another man you obsessed over?
At any event, if it makes you feel any better, and in keeping with the previous mentions of the Beatles, feel free to consider me as PunaWeb’s “Fool on the Hill”

Oh. So one of those posters who likes to tell the boss how to run the company.
If he went out on his own, he must not have been very successful, as to be honest, I’ve never heard of anyone named Damon.

Some could clearly use a review - just be sure to include Whataboutism as you seem to have some expertise.
Why would I include other stuff if I discussed the straw man fallacy? I also don't care about all the other stuff you posted. I know it must have taken you some time to write your post, but only you care.

I think he just posted repeatedly to make himself look more important than he was. All he was after was attention. I don't see the same thing with any current PW posters.

Damon has a Facebook page. I look at it frequently. Itʻs public. Mostly, itʻs about his son, Hayden. Hayden is an amazing young man. I first saw him a few years ago when he got up by all by himself at a public event and started dancing. Sixteen year old boy. It was mesmerizing. The whole place just stopped to watch him. He is well on his way to becoming a cultural pracitioner and was recently a large part of organizing the fashion show at Nani Mau Gardens. Quite a guy. Donʻt know about Damon but he must have done something right.
But I stongly disagree with you about current Punaweb posters not seeking attention.
Certainty will be the death of us.

HiloJulie - the “NERD” in me did some extensive research.
Oh cool, research is neat - what you learn?
HiloJulie - turns out, “ironyak” is a “long time” PunaWeb TROLL.
Oh... oh, wow... (dear reader, I had thought "disingenuous" was the explanation, but turns out it was "brick". Called that one wrong, goes to show what I know. Hanlon's razor strikes again! Feel a bit bad...)
HiloJulie - finding that this tactic employed by “ironyak” has been repeated several times in the past.
I do have a bit of a "beat them over the head with facts" schtick and while to be fair we all have our peccadillos, I don't want to end up a rusty old punatic running over the same old ground so maybe I'll mix it up in the future. Engage only in Socratic dialog, or post only in haiku, something pithy. Notes accepted!
HiloJulie - I found “ironyak” to be one of the several posters here on PunaWeb who in their posts will either tell Rob how to moderate his own website
Guilty as charged. I was there 3000 years ago on the slopes of the Mount BBS's and have seen the strength of (wo)men fail, time and time again. You can't really expect users to enforce the rules especially when some won't listen and DGAF for community norms. Given that there's apparently been a TROLL here on PW for 15 years, I'd say that's proof enough of Rob being delinquent in his moderation duties. ;)
At the end of the day it's Rob's sandbox, only he can make sure people play nice, but I know he's got other projects keeping him busy.
HiloJulie - there were days where “ironyak” was making over 20 plus posts a day for weeks on end.
lol - yeah. While the numbers sound hyperbolic, I have gone on some tears here. However, when other contributors pointed out that both the number and length of my posts were a bit much to follow along, I switched styles to quote less, only post once or twice a day, use links instead of excerpts, and so forth, as the goal is to actually provide accessible information and engage in discussion. This whole streamlined format and approach is all thanks to listening to feedback from other contributors.
As the foremost scholar of my PW oeuvre, HiloJulie, perhaps you can provide some examples of this transformation in my work? Thanks!
TomK - Why would I include other stuff if I discussed the straw man fallacy?
You noted the strawman arguments and said "Maybe my next thread will be about PW's greatest logical fallacies" which could cover all sorts. Just don't want you to leave yourself out of the running as you've got plenty of chances to win as well!
TomK - I also don't care about all the other stuff you posted. I know it must have taken you some time to write your post, but only you care.
Well, HiloJulie cares, as she bothered to read everything I've ever posted here and only in like a day or so - that's dedication! I doubt anyone ever read all your posts in a day - so nani nani boo boo to you.

In as much as I can understand that “schtick,” please point out one thing I ever said that wasn’t “factual.” As for everything else stated, that’s on you.

So, clearly, you know far more and better ways to run a website forum much better than Rob does and yet you keep posting here. And yes, while my occupation (as well as my husband’s) had us flying all over the place, you remind me of the occasional passenger who had maybe flown once or twice in their lifetimes prior, yet they know how to fly the plane far better that the 25 years of experience Captain!
As for you being here 3,000 years ago – yes, I can believe that! I bet you were quite the catch, before electricity that is!

So what’s good for the goose isn’t good for the gander? When you do manage to streamline your posts, let me know!

There you go again! You’re so much better than me and everyone else!
And from your other post:

Here, you list 5 threads I started where no one has commented on. Yet, collectively, those 5 posts have had a total of 736 views as of me typing this out. Did it ever occur to you, that when I posted those threads, I was never intending to have any discussion about the subject matters? Perhaps maybe I was just simply sharing and being a Punaweb contributor who has a wide range of backgrounds, experiences, and knowledge? Did it ever occur to you that that maybe you might learn a thing or two if you weren't so intent on being a dick to everyone? (Do these words sound familiar to you?)
(07-04-2024, 06:07 PM)ironyak Wrote: HiloJulie - I probably would hit a preverbal brick wall to ask how you spent how ever many years on this earth earning a living to support your family and the carbon footprint you have created.
I've discussed my background on PW before, but as you are adding and removing words to misquote me, it's clear your are not engaging in good-faith so won't be indulging more of your demands.
Has my career been carbon emission free? Of course not, as that's an impossible standard given our fossil-fueled infrastructure.
Has it involved hundreds of thousands of miles of travel, including flying 5000+ miles to put ink on paper? No, I'd skip that insanity only made possible because pollution doesn't have a monetary cost despite its long-term negative impacts.
Do I try to live a simple life to counter-balance the emissions I make and have made? Yep, that lifestyle is part of the appeal of choosing to living in Puna.
Should everyone look at simplifying for the well-being of all life and the ecological systems that support it, now and into the future? That's what the science says, and has said for decades, and my choices try to support that science.
For someone who “won't be indulging more of your demands” and yet you keep replying! Typical. Also, I see YOUR career has not been carbon emission free because “Of course not, as that's an impossible standard given our fossil-fueled infrastructure” yet my career does not fit the same way? Again, more of the what’s good for the goose is not good for the gander.
As for flying 5,000 miles to put ink on paper – was not my decision. Was done at the insistence of an opposing clients lawyers. Why? So they could quite simply be assholes – as well as showing their disdain for losing their case. Could I have said NO? Yes I could have. I could have destroyed a 30 year career, injured a law firm that employs hundreds of people. Cost my client millions of dollars. Tied up the justice system for another 2 plus years – where others would have jumped in and taken my place – and all have done the same thing. So, despite what it is you think, if I had said NO – I would have willing contributed to one hell of a lot more carbon emissions than my 5,000 mile 24 hour trip ever did. And to be clear, destroying the social economic structure to make a point – is not going to get anyone far in doing anything to solve carbon emissions.
(07-04-2024, 06:07 PM)ironyak Wrote: You don’t argue on the merit of your point, you argue to argue.
Nah, not interested in arguing for the sake of arguing. But when kids win a historic, first in the nation settlement to decarbonize a state's transportation system, yeah, I'll show up to support that.
Interesting comment. Did you manage to read my FIRST post on the thread before you formulated any reply to me that you made? This was long before you even made your first post on that thread.
Clearly, no you did not. So here, I’ll quote it for you:
“I love debating “climate change!””
“First, I have to give a hat tip to these children and this lawsuit they filed. Furthermore, a hat tip to the State for coming to this settlement. After spending 3 million taxpayer dollars fighting it. BUT… the results of this settlement will certainly not be seen by me – I’m already 67 and by 2045, I’d be 88. I hope I can live that long, but, I’m not expecting it. (And I am pretty sure most of you PunaWebbers would like to see my demise even earlier!)”
So again, all you have managed to prove is that all you desire to do is to argue for the sake of arguing. Perhaps maybe you also missed my statements of my retirement a little over a year ago? I no longer am traveling as I once used to. Outside of having to go to Honolulu to assist a neighbor 3 times in one week as well as a few other trips – because of our state health care system and one trip to go see near and dear friends whom we had not seen in over 20 years.
And further yes, I have, at significant financial cost, invested in alternative power such as solar and a hybrid vehicle so I can live a simple life to counter-balance the emissions I make and have made. Yep, that lifestyle is part of the appeal of choosing to living in Puna and everyone should look at simplifying for the well-being of all life and the ecological systems that support it, now and into the future. That's what the science says, and has said for decades, and my choices try to support that science. (Do any of these words sound familiar?)

I was there 3000 years ago on the slopes of the Mount BBS's
I still remember many years before Mount BBS, a carved in wood post from around one evening’s campfire, enjoying roasted steenbok and yams, and the reaction it stirred among the tribe closely huddled together in a circle around the flames, loosely translated:
Steenbok bad, vegan good.
Fire make carbon.
Prescient.
Some said a man before his time.
Then others asked, “what is time?”
