FYI County Employees Regarding Pay For 10/15/2024

Once I waited 6 months for my state tax refund, around 2008.  I called four times, nobody cared.
Another time they forgot to order check printing paper, and I waited two months because of their mistake.

One day? Boo hoo.

On the other hand, many state workers are not well-paid, and if they rely on their salaries to be paid as promised by the state to avoid mortgage, rent, or car payments late with probable consequences to their credit,  I can understand why they would be upset. However, if their pay period ends on the 15th, how can they be paid that day without their work attendance being checked and processed?  So, Patricia needs to provide more info, e.g., what's the pay period, and is there anything that supports her claim?

Aloha Tom K.

County workers are not paid "current." This means, when you are paid on the 15th, you are actually being paid for hours you worked PRIOR to that week. You are not being paid for work you did from the 1st through 15th- but for work you did BEFORE those dates.

Support my claim? Ask any County worker.

Then maybe you should have said that in the first place. And no, I'm not going to go out and ask any county worker; I'm busy with my job and life. It's up to you to support your claims; there's no obligation for me to do that for you.

Maybe there are state workers here who can confirm your claim or dispute it; who knows? I'm asking for evidence from another source, not just you.

I think so. Are you on the island? If not, I'm away for half of November, but anytime after that should be around. I also have a geologist friend visiting sometime soon, but given my travel dates, I'm not sure if that'll happen or not.

Aloha Tom K. You are confusing state workers with County workers- not the same. Need to make sure your source (or you) are aware of that distinction.
Have a great night.

Think that's bad?

Back in 2009, both my husband and I had gone thru a dispute with some income being earned and taxed between Hawaii and California for over 6 years, with California not agreeing with the way we filed our taxes for those years, thus turning what should have been modest refunds for each year into a gargantuan payment for each year.

Anyways, after a long-drawn-out legal affair that was culminated in our "WIN" thus requiring the original refunds to be paid to us plus interest, we were rewarded with California issuing us a 180-day IOU for each tax year instead of checks!

At any event, I don't think paying any employee the wages due on time every time by any employer is a task that's difficult to master in today's age of virtually instant everything.

I do not know how county workers or their HR do things, but I would assume they would be similar to state employees. If they are not, then please provide that second source.

In as much as I could not agree with you more, however, this being Hawaii, I would NOT be surprised to find that between the State and each Island County - everything is done differently and with different systems and protocols.

Aloha Tom K. Like you, I am busy with my job and life. I do not have time to "provide" for you. And you know what they say about assume...
I have no idea how the PR (payroll) for state employees works. I do know how the PR for Hawaii County works and I have provided that info for you. Do not believe me? Oh well, your loss.
Still, I do believe the moderator stated "conversation is not about winning..."
