They has been really heavy this year.
Iʻve been waiting almost a year to try this. I had my charcoal grill fire all set for a wood fire and Iʻve been waiting for the first swarming night of the year and tonight was the night. I saw them trying to come in through the windows, turned the lights off, ran out and lit the fire right near where they were swarming, then waited for the devastation to begin. The fire caught nicely and then... nothing. They showed no interest and just dispersed. Were they smart enough to stay away from the heat? In the meantime, Iʻve gotten two inside bug zappers that do a pretty good job for the interlopers getting in the house. The saga continues...

Not HPP, not exactly a home, but in these troubling times maybe our second home should be a bunker in Pahoa? (That’s a lot of white sand in that hole for Puna)

Difficult to believe that's Pahoa with the deep, dry soil. The cost of excavation work necessary for one of these in Puna would be substantial.
They're not for me-too claustrophobic.

I found it interesting that for each district there was a picture. All the districts except Puna had beautiful tropical images. Puna had a stark lava flow.

How dare you suggest that stark lava flows are not beautiful. You're going to annoy the environmentalists. They love stark lava flows. They work hard to protect lava flows from coastal destroyers who want to mar them with man-made things like roads and restoration projects like bringing back man-made Ahalalui Pond near Pohoiki, covered by lava in the 2018 eruption.

New real estate report compares Hawaii Island July 2025 sales to July 2024. Puna is a little up in some categories, a little down in others. Basically unchanged:

Not HPP, but Hamakua Coast. Rosanne Barr is selling her farm and 4 bedroom home overlooking the North Pacific. Considering all that’s included, the price seems quite reasonable for Hamakua property, that according to Roseanne also feeds hungry families in Hawaii, with macadamia nuts?
Roseanne Barr is ready to part ways with a piece of her post-sitcom chapter. The 72-year-old comedian and actress is putting her 46-acre macadamia nut farm in Honokaa, Hawaii—best known as the backdrop of her 2011 Lifetime reality series Roseanne’s Nuts—on the market for $1.95 million.
Set along the Big Island’s verdant Hamakua Coast, the estate reflects both Barr’s personal reinvention and her deep connection to Hawaii, where she relocated in 2007. The farm became a stage for her exploration of self-sufficiency and organic farming, far from the spotlight that first made her a household name.
I purchased the property in Honokaa, we also wanted to build a sustainable home and help feed struggling families in Hawaii.”
The farm is as abundant as it is picturesque. More than 4,000 macadamia trees spread across rolling acreage, complemented by avocados, finger limes, apple bananas, and tangerines.

Yes, the price was reasonable, possibly employing a realtors’ occasional sales technique of pricing low, to encourage a bidding war. Offer accepted was $650,000 over asking. Sold in one week.
