MyManao - I am sorry we did away with the Fairness Doctrine, and the devastating effect its absence has had on so many.
Speaking of past times, here in Puna as part of the 250th anniversary stuff, I've been catching up on some Revolutionary War and American history books. Most recently, I'm finishing Democracy Awakening: Notes on the State of America by Heather Cox Richardson (available here from the Hawaii Libraries). In it, she talks about how the building of an alternate, nonfactual, and ahistorical story has been central to the conservative project, from at least the mid-1800s, and how ending the Fairness Doctrine under Reagan played a key role to expanding it via Limbaugh and AM radio, to Bannon and social media.
It's clear that even in a heavily Democratic state like Hawaii, the effects of these fringe beliefs divorced from reality cannot be escaped. So what to do, other than share factual information, discuss the topics widely, and organize to address negative impacts to the community here in Puna, and across Hawaii more broadly? Perhaps a mob, pack, gang, or troup of mongooses can be rallied to provide camaraderie for the cause by those with the background experience! ;)

Punatang, I gotta agree with HotPE's sentiment. To keep it Hawaii:
I would vote Harry Kim for Mayor in 2028 before I'd vote for B.J. Penn. The reason: Harry Kim's staff would have/keep competent individuals and career technocrats in place, while B.J. would appoint a bunch of sycophants that wouldn't dare correct him when he inevitably screwed up or crossed a line.
And yes, I know, that's the point.

A ridiculous stretch from PT but OK, I'll play.
When he spoke in Maui without a teleprompter (transcripts available online), Biden seemed OK, especially compared to the inane rants coming from 47 recently.
Over a year later, after the horrible debate performance, Green was quoted saying both candidates were "elderly" and that to be fair the media should focus on the mental acuity for both of them.

That full video from The Hill is worth the seven minute listen IMHO as Governor Green lays out in plain language his belief in proper medical testing for the elderly (regardless of political affiliation), his objections to the bias against vaccines, including the COVID-19 vaccine, being shown under RFK Jr, as well as his support for looking at reducing food dyes and pesticides in the food supply. It's nice to have a representative for the state of Hawaii able to understand, explain, and support science.
Hopefully those who are inclined to believe Green about Biden are also willing to believe him about these other topics as well.

Speaking of non-governor BJ Penn, he can’t stop fighting the wrong people and claims his family members were replaced with impostors:
“How can I be under arrest for harassment? This is my house,” Penn told the officers. “I just went to go grab the mail. Can we call an officer I know that can talk to you guys? Why am I being arrested again? What kind of harassment? What does harassment mean?”
“My mother Lorraine Shin, my brother Jay Dee Penn, my brother, Reagan Penn and my brother Kalani Mamazuka [were] all murdered and I need [police] to investigate these guys get these people out of my house and my off my properties,” Penn captioned one of the posts on April 8.

iʻve seen this in a couple of other suspect sites so still not sure if itʻs true, but if so, itʻs a sad situation. This is called capgras. My closest friendʻs husband has it. Itʻs a form of alzheimers where someone doesnʻt recognize a loved one---everyone else is ok. My friend had to put her husband in a home because he began threatening her thinking she was an intruder. Probably best to leave BJ alone now. He wonʻt be running for office again.
