The Bicker Board
Obie - You should come here and visit and meet the people who elected Trump. They're not 3 headed monsters or nazis.
Well, they're probably not all nazis at least - some however...
"After Trump amplified the falsehood during the nationally televised event, extremists have stepped up their in-person activities in Springfield [Ohio]. That Saturday, Proud Boys members from several chapters gathered in the city, KKK leaflets were distributed and a white power organization called the Aryan Freedom Network posted flyers on utility poles."

Many of us have been to Ohio, the midwest, etc - even have family there and are quite familiar with the politics. It'd be nice if their heads weren't filled with so much nonsense from the right-wing "news" sources so they were actually informed about the sort of extremism they've voted into power (if that wasn't the intended goal...)

Thankfully we have a large moat between Hawaii and the slim political plurality that enabled this slide into authoritarianism. We'll send some coffee, fruit, and funds to the front lines when we get back from the beach. ;)

PS - What were the other two posts of yours about that were deleted?

MyManao has deleted three of his posts on this thread recently. I note you haven't asked about those.

Why don't you ask moderator2.

I'm okay with it.

that doesn't fit the narrative expressed over and over again by a few folks here

It is difficult to know how to describe people who can’t understand that a stated policy of arresting murderers, drug dealers, and dangerous criminals is in no way similar to one in which those arrested are coffee farmers in Kona, teachers on Maui, and young women flying into HNL.

Do we have any past examples of a similar government bait and switch tactic, with the tacit support and approval of a portion of the general population who mostly chose to look the other way, and pretended the collateral damage to their neighbors was acceptable?  And even defended the policy, and asked others to be patient and see how it turns out?  Are there examples of a time when locking up residents without charges, transporting them long distances without legal justification later allowed the monsters to carry out plans that anyone who paid attention in a 7th grade history class might find parallels, even recognizing quotations and symbols co-opted from an earlier time?

Do we want our neighbors, farmers, business owners in Hawaii to be treated as criminals, if they’re not charged with a criminal offense?  What might happen if you don’t care, or if you make excuses for those who are the real law breakers, policy makers who have had a majority of court case judgments ruled against them, and the enforcers of those broken laws roaming our public streets without uniforms, identification, not reading Miranda rights who “just follow orders?”  Orders invalidated by the courts?

@TomK - I have a good guess as to what MyManao's posts were about and that they weren't messages intended for me. As Obie and I are conversing, was just curious what he said that even the ever-tolerant Mod had to take action. Oh well, feel free to send them via private message/email if you actually want to talk, or can continue to rant into the void...

I have no idea if they were aimed at you or not; you don't know either, since they were deleted. I'm just demonstrating your bias.

More BS.. as usual.

@TomK - Nah, I've seen years of likely similar messages before they were deleted. Not a real mystery, I'm sure even you could fill in the blanks.

Obie though could have said anything - some more swearing (of fealty), maybe threw a verbal "gesture of love", who knows... The mind boggles at the possibilities! But I guess Mod2 has a job to do, and don't want to make it harder than needed, so will rest easy knowing that by keeping posts related to Hawaii it will shield us like magic from the blustery winds coming from the east.

Exactly what bullshit are you referring to?

Idea for Rob and Mod2: can the name of this thread be changed to "All bets are off! Argue national politics all you want here!"

Or can this recent national political tangent be moved to a new thread titled thusly?

Or...?

It just makes me sad to read about the politics of people on here when there are other places online to read such (which I avoid)...but at the same time, it helps me to know *who* to avoid engaging. Yeah, said it.

I don't ascribe only to echo chambers, I seek balance and civility (which seem to be in short supply), and verifiable fact thru multiple legitimate reputable news sites. Many of them.

I guess my actual obvious action should simply be for me not to even look at The Bicker Board thread and just stick to reading the others...my bad.
