'elepaio - ABCers...
People who know their ABCs? Easy as 123? Simple as Do-Re-Mi. ABC, 123, baby, you and me. Good skills to have I guess for making protest signs - along with some markers and paints, can all help show the value of Sesame Street and PBS! (still available, for now, in Hawaii here, or here if you wanna brush up 'elepaio ;) With it being Flag Day, Pride Month, and a national day of protest, can expect the Bayfront to be quite colorfully, artistically, and grammatically adorned with all the letters tomorrow!
Obie - Don't forget your ... flags.
At the last few protest events in Hilo, someone brought an Ukrainian flag. He seemed under-resourced for an invasion force, and too friendly, but worth keeping an eye on, and having a chat with, I guess. Can learn a lot from practicing a little Aloha. Indivisible Bluesky post with event details and parking options. Time & place: 10a - Noon, Bayfront, Makai side. Also collecting non-perishable food and hygiene items for Aloha Latinos. Wave a sign or flag, talk story, support the community, be a part of history - sounds like a good time and cause to me. Have fun everyone!

Please.
Keep flag related comments to flags seen in Puna and/or Hawaii.

It was packed and busy! Over half a mile long (count those steps), makai side filled, much of mauka side as well, 1000+ people, in the neighborhood of the first Hilo Women's March in 2017 (Donnie's bad deeds do turn out a protest crowd). Wide mix of ages as well, lots of teens, young and middle-aged adults, along with the always reliable more experienced folk.
Plenty flags too for the aficionados - everything from the U.S. flag, regular and inverted, Hawaii flag, Ukrainian, Pride, FDT, and a red and black Anarchist flag (Topple Ⓐll Tyrants, indeed). Even saw a couple of those scary Mexican flags - went to clutch my pearls reflexively but then realized I had not put them on, given the informal vibe of the gathering. Shared a shaka instead. Cheers to the handmaidens, musicians, scooter felon, sign artists, chant leaders, and everyone who turned out!

Nice video ironyak! Thanks for posting!
Yes, it was a very good turnout - I am not a good number of people estimator - but between our little group that went - were all guessing 1,000 plus people turned out as well. My favorite sign was "Too Many Issues For One Poster" Peaceful. Honorable. Decent. Empathetic. Kind. Generous. Hopeful. |
