Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids in Hawaii
It’s a policy of lose, lose..

Nah, only in the short term. Long term, once we secede, we'll have locally grown and the ohana will happily chip in to help with the harvest. And, omg, that's a whole lot better than those poor suckers on Tuttle Island who'll be stuck drinking watered down orange moron tea.

If Hawaii secedes won’t the remaining residents lose all their US and state government benefits? And need jobs? Which will leave limited time as unpaid help with the coffee harvest?

If the answer to the above is yes, yes, yes, the many people currently unemployed in Ka’u District have a lot more time available now to chip in with picking and happily grinning.

Secession is likely to be met by a military occupation.

Setting that aside for the moment, what would a newly Free Hawaii do for currency? Defense? Food imports?

Leave it to a bunch of transplanted mainland haoles to talk about Hawaii seceding from the United States, in the context of when, not if, which in and of itself is constitutionally impossible, but nonetheless, thinking THEY would, or will, have a seat at the table!

Speaking of no one here in Hawaii being above the law, it seems his newfound "authority" may have gone a bit to his to his head? Or was he just "following orders?"

At any event, I have to say, "throw the book at him!"

Finally, all those ICE job fairs with $50,000 signing bonuses are bringing out “the worst of the worst” (and then hiring them).

A while back, I posted about Sergio Haro the Maui fire victim, arrested virtually to the minute of the 2-year anniversary of the fires, in front of his children, for an alleged administrative violation of immigration law.

As was noted in that post, Haro has been a “valuable member of the Hawaii community for over 20 years.”

“He has no criminal record. He is a devoted husband, loving father of three daughters, and proud grandfather to his infant grandson, all of whom live in Hawaii and have legal status...”

Haro also arrived in Hawaii (thus America) as a minor child, no doubt having any real say as to his legal status at that time.

Now, along comes Abraham Moreno Garcia a Mexican National, convicted for the third time of being in Hawaii (thus America) unlawfully. Additionally, he was arrested for DUI in Kona, making that his seventh DUI arrest.

But what does Abraham get? 12 months of all expenses paid free housing on the taxpayer dime, along with 3 years of supervised release. His case was investigated by Homeland Security, the same group who investigated and arrested Sergio.

If one is to expect all this as the "worst of the worst" being immediately deported when caught, why isn't Abraham on the first plane out of here instead of Sergio? Why is Abraham afforded a trial? Public Defender? Due process?

I'd love for someone to square this circle. At least get it to pass a "giggle test."

Maybe he got caught with a Budweiser, not imported Corona Extra? And prosecutors decided that’s pretty dern American? Or was he also secretly working for the FBI like that one guy in BrainWashington DC, and he had to be seen with a beer, for his cover?

Here’s an update on the Big Island coffee crop this year.  Unfortunately ICE had an impact, leaving farms without enough workers and coffee cherries unpicked:

As the coffee harvesting season comes to a close, some small Kona farmers say they have experienced an impact to their farm production due to fear and concern stemming from reported arrests of immigrant workers on the Big Island.

The evidence can be seen.

“Just driving down the road, there’s a lot of overripe cherries on the trees,” said Ryson Nakamasu, operations manager of Honolulu Coffee in Hōlualoa.
