Merry Christmas everyone!

When I was young, my uncle would climb up on the roof and stomp around on Christmas Eve.  My mother would tell my sisters and me those were the reindeer on the roof, Santa had landed his sleigh.

Now, I still love to remember the effort my family put into our Christmas festivities, but also realize my uncle climbed up on the roof of a two story house - at night, below freezing, in a heavy coat, on the slippery snow!!

Santa has a bit of a tailwind I think. He's already visited Hilo and it isn't even Christmas yet!

Robert Aitken lived for a time in Puna after he retired as roshi of the Diamond Sangha in Honolulu.  Here’s a poem he found evocative of the Christmas spirit:

The Work of Christmas

When the song of the angels is stilled,
When the star in the sky is gone,
When the kings and princes are home,
When the shepherds are back with their flock,
The work of Christmas begins:
To find the lost,
To heal the broken,
To feed the hungry,
To release the prisoner,
To rebuild the nations,
To bring peace among others,
To make music in the heart.
