Yes.
As the sign says it’s a nene nesting area, and if I remember correctly I believe it’s also a staging area for fighting fires in that area of Mauna Loa.
Drive up Highway 11, past Volcano Village, past the main HVNP entrance, past the turn for Volcano Golf Course. Take the next turn right, Mauna Loa Road and follow it down to bird park, Kīpukapuaulu. Continue up Mauna Loa Road a few hundred feet and that’s the general location. But as the sign says, keep out, especially when nene are nesting.
I believe the triangles are helicopter landing markers:

Well done! I've found it now. 19.435 -155.31
That was hard, but fun.

It's only a few hundred yards from Puna, so I suspect it is walkable for able-bodied people. In the meantime, I'm trying to find out what the triangles mean. It many cases it means triangulation points, but that makes no sense if they're so close together.
Thanks, I missed that. I hope this thread continues, maybe the winner should suggest the next place to figure out? I suspect it's random but I'll leave that up to others to decide.
