Rob Tucker - A different opinion need not be a challenge...it's just a different opinion.

Hey Rob - just as a quick thought, as I had much the same approach for most of my life - feel free to believe what you want to believe, practice freedom of thought, and all that. But over the recent years we've seen the rise of opinions and beliefs that actively cause harm, from health and medical misinformation to calls for attacking, or even eliminating, those people with a different religion, race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, political affiliation and so forth. Having friends and family in those groups quickly makes clear the real threat of violence they encounter on a regular and increasing basis from such opinions.

When opinions or beliefs are advocating for, and causing harm to people, I think it's important to challenge them. Live and let live only works when both sides agree to do so.

I don't understand this compulsive need and obsession to prove things.  As far as I'm concerned people are all allowed their own personal beliefs and should not have to defend themselves.  I see it a lot of it on Punaweb where members appear driven to "win" in the face of differing opinions.  A different opinion need not be a challenge...it's just a different opinion.  Communication does not require a winner, it works best with simple basic respect.

"Assume the best and ask questions."

And when questions are asked, you see one or two start hurling insults in response.  In addition, one poster in particular wants someone else to be censored because they have a different opinion. I don't believe you are immune to being asked questions, even if you don't like them. I also believe that if someone posts something that's clearly provocative, as you did, others should be allowed to respond. I'm glad to see you haven't gone down the route of deleting those comments.

In as much as I have for the most part, stayed out of this whole "God" debate, I could not agree more with Ironyak's above comment.

However, going a bit further, what I find even more egregious are the ones who claim or otherwise use whatever faith one may have in any such God, or Religion, in order to make, substantiate or in any way justify those harmful opinions, especially when calling for attacking, eliminating or implying threats of violence against people who are different in the ways mentioned as being "God's will."

Bolding is mine.

Thanks. It's a confusing mess of a sentence, but I think you seem to be saying that you don't like different religions fighting each other.  I don't like it either. But history shows that's what they do.

Not at all a confusing mess of a sentence in any stretch of the way, but your need to hurl an insult is interesting.

Why yes, hello pot says the kettle.

Yes, not confusing at all. What does  "people who are different in the ways mentioned as being "God's will."" mean? And I don't see any insult in my post.

There is just simply no reason to have to explain to you the obvious meaning in the entire context of my post quoting what Ironyak said.

You just simply are using that as an excuse to provoke an argument and hurl an insult.

And if not that, then you must clearly just lack basic comprehension and reading skills.

You think I "hurl and insult"? I simply can't make sense of this (I almost hurled when I read your sentence):

"However, going a bit further, what I find even more egregious are the ones who claim or otherwise use whatever faith one may have in any such God, or Religion, in order to make, substantiate or in any way justify those harmful opinions, especially when calling for attacking, eliminating or implying threats of violence against people who are different in the ways mentioned as being "God's will."

It's word salad and means nothing.

I know you can make sense of this.

As is the norm for virtually every response you make to virtually every poster.

And I did edit the typo of the word "and" to "an" that was done before you made your reply, but again, in another provocation, you quote the pre-edited typo, as yet another veiled insult.

I'm done for tonight. I get to deal with red tape during the day and then this nonsense in the evening.
