I received this email:
Aloha Valued Customer, Due to volcanic ashfall in Hilo presenting potential hazards to our aircrafts and ground crew, all flights into Hilo (ITO) have been cancelled and the Aloha Air Cargo Hilo Station has closed. Our Dispatch team is currently watching the volcanic ashfall and will give the all clear to resume flights and operations, once the Hilo (ITO) airport is clear of all volcanic ash. Anyone know about passenger flights?

The fountaining is over for now, and I didn't see significant accumulation on the part of my vehicle I wiped clean earlier. Hopefully it all blows away tonight!

No golfers out today at Volcano Golf Course. Area hit harder than the Village this episode, some side roads entirely covered with ash & tephra. County has front end loaders and dump trucks working to haul ash away. A crew of 4 people was out this afternoon raking the chunks off the golf course, by hand.

I don't know severity of storm.. but the wind.. as much as there is any so far.. is definitely Kona kine. And, the eruption is imminent in that it is already cycling through the on again off again spillovers that bleed off enough of the weight to allow the wham bam thank you ma'am to kick in..
Alls to say for those that would do something if it were to start raining tephra down upon them tonight/tomorrow may be a time worth keeping watch..

Thatʻs really too bad. All those visiting Merrie Monarchers ALMOST getting a chance to see an eruption up close and personal. What a tease. But better tephra there than tephra here.
Certainty will be the death of us.

Ah, but more than likely she'll still be dancing in the distance while Merrie Monarch gets started. There's nothing like good seats makai side of the venue with wahine dancing on the stage in competition for miss aloha while Pele dances on the horizon behind. It's happened a few times.. the true meaning of chicken skin. Folks gonna be jazzed. |
