If I may beg for Moderator 2's indulgence here and ask one small favor of the WannaBe, Part Time, Junior Assistant Intern Moderator Tang as to what should be the moderation of the above poster's post.
Obviously, the real and proper course of action would be to completely ignore it.
But, having said that, a few questions:
1. Is this an example of the "perversion" of PunaWeb you have mentioned quite often? Is this proper language for children to read? Is this a good example of "The perverts are actively emboldened?"
2. Is the above post a good example of "information that’s of interest to the community?"
3. Is this a good example of PunaWeb being "...dirtier and meaner now?"
4. Should you as the WannaBe, Part Time, Junior Assistant Intern Moderator Tang deem the above post to be "only deletes profanity, perversion, and personal attacks (name calling, mocking, persistent ugliness)?"
5. Does the above comment create a "Nice Punaweb where people feel safe and free to contribute and share their opinions without the current fear of being relentlessly attacked by those with differing opinions and agendas?"
I eagerly await any answer you may offer and I thank Moderator 2 in advance for the indulgence.

Gee, how screw up can it be when the "Dixie Chicks" or "Tres Chicas" or "The Fiddle Chicks," "The Chicks From The Sticks" and even the "Chicks On Speed," the "Swizzle Chicks," the "Four Chicks and Chuck," the just plain "Chicks," "Tanga Chicks," "The Lezbnrocker Chicks" and maybe even the "Chicks with Picks" rather than being celebrated for their musical talents could be in danger of being deleted because their names are now offensive.
Small minds create small worlds.
Simply amazing how small it's gotten when a term that is so baked into the vernacular, seriously, can be seen by one as offensive and then they are able to bring the entire party down with them.
Sad.

It seems like Moderator 2 is on it like Bluebonnet. No need to ask me my opinion, Julie. Join the reporteratti yourself and vote with a tap of your finger. I did. Moderator 2 gets it.
FWIW, although it appealed to my lesser angels, I flagged Obie's post over in the lost home thread because he attacked you, Julie. Poof, it was gone.
Sorry Obie but there is a new Sheriff in town and Moderator 2 ain't havin' it no more. You probably were not aware because there is no explanation for the actions taken which dampers their overall value but, it's a start. In the aggregate, it's a very good thing and we appreciate your involuntary sacrifice, Obie.
We can all behave and be nice to each other even if we vehemently disagree on policy, politicians, or anything else.
Pono Punaweb Forever!

ETA: MyMan! The greater irony may be that "The Dixie Chicks" changed their name to "The Chicks" because, in my understanding, the word "Dixie" has connotations to slavery and The Civil War. Your points are well taken. It would be amazing for the progress of humanity if there was a reset button that removed the ability to be offended, whether real offense, or "pearl clutching", from our code. Imagine the possibilities. Meanwhile, we must muddle through and do our best to remain abreast of the latest twists in the language lest we get cracks and dirty lickins or worse, hurt someone's feelings.
ETA2 (under 15 minutes) VVVVVVVV - What happened down there MyMan!?? Didn't see. Can't learn.

And to be honest.. I, seriously, think the one in question is feigning their disgust all along so as to put on a show..
Tang: I deleted me asking you your opinion of my post listing all the musical stuff.. you had already made comment on it so I scrubbed my request for comment. And, OMG YES! I would be offended if anyone mentioned Dixie! LOL!

I guess I must be really clear again. I am not talking about being offended by girl band names that incorporate the use of the word "chick(s)" in their title.
My whole comment centers around the specific calling of an African American Female who had led an exemplary life of accomplishment after accomplishment, breaking cultural norm after norm, and whose sole single life of those accomplishments could be considered head and shoulders above that of the top 20 active PunaWeb posters, inclusive of myself combined, a "black chick." My life was enriched in numerous ways just being a guest on the several flights I took with her "behind the wheel."
THAT is the only offensive issue that I am discussing. Nor am I clutching at pearls either. I am pointing out that in the context used relative to the person I was discussing, the term "black chick" is just absolutely as offensive as one can get.
Now, I do find it ironic, that the two posters who seem to think that this is just an accepted cultural norm, something that should just be chuckled at, think I am clutching my pearls and putting on a show at one time became so incensed, so outraged and so offended, their feeling so hurt by my, maybe right, maybe wrong, use of one simple word. You can start with this post and follow the corresponding posts if interested, but this is another good example of the sheer hypocrisy shown by some on PunaWeb.

I totally get what you are saying Julie. From where you stand, as a strong woman and anti-racist, it crosses a line, just like I am sure that as a white woman you would never stand in front of a majority black group of people and say something like, "I'm a h___ of a lot smarter than most of you.", because saying or condoning something like that would make you a hypocrite which you clearly are not.
If we think we are in trouble now, Gen Alpha has a whole new language unto themselves.
The above translated into Gen A speak:
Ion even cap Julie, I’m lowkey picking up what you throwing down fr. From your POV, as a straight-up strong queen with that anti-racist aura, it’s giving major cross-the-line vibes, no Ohio. Like fr, I bet as a white baddie you’d never pull up to a whole squad of black kings/queens and hit em with some 'I’m a h___ or way smarter than y’all' energy, cuz that’d make you straight hypocrite mode and we know you ain’t built like that, you got that sigma no-fake rizz.If we think we cooked now, Gen Alpha got they own whole different dialect cooked up, it’s straight brain rot skibidi level fr
For us Punawebbers lucky enough to live Hawaii, we either learn to navigate these issues fluidly - real quick - or we join what I call "the 18 month crowd" which is comprised of those arrivals that you can just tell ain't gonna last ova hea.
Fortunately, Punaweb is here to inform us and help us on the journey. While folks might defend the seemingly indefensible here, I'm pretty sure the messages are internalized and help to move us all along our holoholo. Your input is valued and appreciated.
Aloha,
Tang

Sorry, I don't separate people by race, gender, sexual identity, religion or any other metric. I would never stand in front of ANY group of people and say "I'm a h___ of a lot smarter than most of you." ***
Further, I would never call an African American female (or male) or for that matter, any other race of people, a "black" (or any other color or offensive word use to denominate a persons race) "chick." (or equally as offensive derogatory male term)
Oh, and thanks for reporting that post made by another poster that mentioned me and apparently got deleted. I did not get to see it, but I am not surprised it was made. Not in the least. And no doubt with a full sense of entitlement too. So, again, thanks!

Well it sounds like your information sources are insulating you from a great deal, not the least of which is the fact that African Americans are evenly split and on the question of if one or the other term is preferable. However, I was speaking of a predominantly "black" crowd because it was comprised of both African Americans from America and Blacks who come from outside America and who have their own loop on the Venn diagram.
So it might be that as proactive as you clearly want to be, you too may have fallen behind the fast moving line of our ever changing lexicon.
Beyond that, there is a whole subset of earthlings who would be offended by my referring to people from the USA as Americans. It is never ending. We all do our best. I know you strive to, and take pride in, being at the forefront. That has honor.
You are welcome for reporting MyMan! and Obie. I have to put my money where my mouth is lest I be more of a hypocrite than I already am. We are all just doing our best. How about we all cut each other a tiny bit of slack - maybe reset - and try to put some energy into things we all do agree on?

However, I was speaking of a predominantly "black"...
Being clear again, I am not discussing the singular use of the word "black." Nor am I discussing the singular use of the word "chick." I am discussing the use of the term "black chick" and even more importantly, the use of that term against the actual woman I was discussing.
How about we all cut each other a tiny bit of slack - maybe reset - and try to put some energy into things we all do agree on?
To that, I say "Amen, my brother or sister!" I do remember when you once said this to me:

I can just imagine the big wigs at HECO sitting around the Koa Wood conference table in the boardroom and sitting in comfy leather chairs each with salaries north of a quarter million a year deciding on a Power Point slide to send out about conserving power due to their complete mismanagement of their power generation and distribution system when one junior executive says “by all means, whatever we do we can’t piss of the 2,668 EV owners, so let’s tell everyone to turn off their air conditioning and don’t feed their kids and don’t do any washing of clothes!”
I see a big promotion and raise for that junior executive!
LOL I was editing my post as you posted. You make good points and with good humor. If it was political, it was not an effort not to piss off the EV owners IMHO.

I think Durian Fiend has addressed that very succinctly (see below). I mentioned earlier that it's how words are used, not that they are in the dictionary.
" Correct. Coming from a man "chick" is inappropriate and considered insulting by women. OTOH, they can call themselves chicks, just like blacks can call themselves the N word.
It's also a dated term. A few decades back we had a group in HS named "chicks and dudes against apathy"."
For example, if I posted something along the lines of "that black bitch over there offends me", none of the words on their own are offensive. Put them together like that, it's a racist and sexist comment, and one I wouldn't dream of saying about anyone.
