Wao nahele wahine - Cute...more insults with some reading comprehension issues thrown in as a change of pace. Kane and I lived together in 2009, so your assumption that I wasn't in his house....WRONG.
The "we" in "we're neither in his head nor in his house, we're stuck taking him at his word" is we the general readers on Punaweb, as opposed to y'all that live together and have the inside story, you silly goose.
Any idea how creepy you are being?
Creepy because I read and remembered something he posted in a public forum? How is it creepy to point at what he has publicly shared?
You don't speak for every poster on Punaweb.
Never said I did. You seem to be having an argument with your own misunderstandings.
You only think he's being a dick because you fell for the grok...lol
Is that how really you see things? Like it was some epic owning of the libs that got people bent out of shape or something and not just some silliness everyone played along with to pass the time? If anything, it showed just how limited AI is with its inability to understand even basic references and how quickly the facade fell apart, making the user behind the curtain running the performance appear even more silly IMO.
Lashing out...insults...making that connection yet with your broad educational background?
You think my replies are examples of lashing out? Probably need to reset your online tone detector as this is a tea-time chat in the morning calm amongst fellow Punatics. :) I describe his behavior as being dickish trolling because of his performative "I refuse to talk to people who might disagree with me", which appears to be unusually limp-wristed and snowflake-like behavior for him. How would you describe his recent behavior on Punaweb? Positively?
As for "Substance Abuse", that's tied to the more recent acknowledgement that no level of alcohol consumption is safe for our health so any drinking is abusive to one's physical and mental health. Obviously, like the lead exposure issue, we're all dealing with some damages, some more than others, but as the Jungle Love T-Shirt says of Puna: "We're all here because we're not all there!"
But I will say you've shown that you're willing to go to bat, even to the point of misconstruing statements and refusing to admitting mistakes, to have his back, and we should all be so lucky to have such a partner. If you need any more slings and arrows of outrageous indignation to throw yourself in front of on his behalf, let me know - I'm happy to help! ;)
Sincerely, all the best & take care. :)

The second time you have now claimed Bill Maher said or did something he never did
You'd have to click the links and read, maybe watch an interview that's outside his own show. It's all well documented should you care to look.
I do like how Bill acknowledges all the socialism in the current U.S. system (social security, unemployment insurance, government subsidies, etc) but then says those and those alone are acceptable socialism, even though all those measures were decried as commie handouts when they were originally being fought over. The status quo the centrist libs are defending are the rights that the progressive left won over the ages in Hawai'i and across the U.S. through organizing, protest, unions, and legislation. So y'all centrists can sit comfy on the benefits the leftists earned while we, along with the DSA, all go out and fight for some more - maybe finally get that Second Bill of Rights as the youths take charge of whatever wreckage is left after this administration.
PS - the free floating exasperated head is great - pretty much sums it up!
Aaaaaaactually, ironyak, a new study just came out that said "moderate wine drinkers had a 21% lower risk of dying from cardiovascular disease compared with never or occasional drinkers", but that benefit was only for wine, not any other beer or spirit: https://medicalxpress.com/news/2026-03-w...major.html

Wow, from March 19, 2026 - that's recent! "according to a study being presented a American College of Cardiology's Annual Scientific Session held in New Orleans" - lol, of course, a "research trip" ;)
Have to see if anyone can replicate/confirm, maybe tease out red vs white wine benefits, etc, but interesting stuff - thanks for sharing!

HJ - That's so nice.
Weak sauce.
That was kind of weak, so I'll give you my detailed response now. I'm going to first say that is quite a list of accomplishments, and outside of it being kind of presented in an in your face, braggadocios manner, I am sure you are also very proud of it.
So, lets take this point by point:
1. Ouch, and after all that time planting trees on Earth Day,
There are 364 other days of the year to plant trees. I've planted dozens of various trees and plants all over our properties over the years, including on Earth Day. Why limit yourself to just one day?
2. and recycling near everything,
As do I. Everything. Besides you paid 6 cents per container and get 5 cents back. Who can pass up on that investment return?
3. and watching Farm Aid
I admit, I struggled with this one. I mean, that must have been sheer exhaustion for you. I am assuming, that you watched it via, as us boomers would say, "the boob tube," but, please don't tell me you got on a big carbon belching jet and flew across the big pond and back just to see it. But then, on one hand, how does just watching it on TV contribute actual cash money to aid our farmers, while on the other hand if you had indeed belched out all that carbon and bought an actual concert ticket you would have made a tremendous financial contribution. And, again, that must have been sheer exhaustion for you either way.
4. and boycotting South Africa
Now that was a noble cause. I assume you are meaning Apartheid, but that ended more or less in 1994, so, being a little honest, is kind of stale on your resume in 2026, but, nonetheless, a very noble cause indeed.
5. and graffiti-ing political messages
Yes, I can imagine that was fun! I'm sure if MyManao was with you, there would have been a lot of phallic style graffiti being used, but I am sure that sent "the man" your message, and I am sure it cost him the election.
6. and advocating for ELF to save those trees and owls,
OK, now I got an issue with this one. I do not see the intellectual, moral, ethical or logical value of wanton destruction of property, including the use of arson, as well as the potential or intentional release of hazardous chemicals, crude oil etc., that at first glance, could severely injure or kill the protestor(s) during the actual act, severely injure or kill innocent bystanders, put first responders at risk of injury or death, and possibly cause an environmental catastrophe taking decades to clean up, when at the end of it all, what ever was destroyed will be replaced, either at the cost to the US Taxpayer, or the consumer, in the form of increased taxes or costs. I also see that this ELF has no structural organization of itself, and as for its operation in the US, more or less ended in 2003. Maybe while under YOUR leadership?
8. and staging walk-outs for the Gulf War
I am assuming this is the 1st Gulf War. I appreciate you doing this 100% as well. Being clear, while not immediate direct family, my husbands brother's wife's sister lost her son during the 1st Gulf War. Out of love and respect, my husband and I attended the funeral. We got to meet the fine pastor of Westboro Baptist Church at that funeral along with a dozen or so of his devout followers. What a nice group of people. They too thought their protests were very just and right and helpful. I would hope your walk outs were in protest of the war in and of itself and had nothing to do with claiming the sons and daughters who gave their life for that war did so because "God hates fags."
9. and protesting for animal rights at the local big pharma companies
Very good cause. Barney loves you for doing that too!
10. and blocking the new Starbucks next to our favorite local coffee shop (never have drank Starbucks because of this)
Never much cared for Starbucks myself, but my real beef with Starbucks was/is their treaatment of employees versus their product.
11. and sign waving along the road next to the local nuclear weapons facility
I assume you are meaning at the Pohakuloa Training Area. A "jazz hands" round of applause for your sign waving participation in that.
12. and reading all those Adbuster mags,
I am impressed at the volume of reading you do.
13. and battling at the GTO meetings
I am having a little confusion here. Are you meaning GMO? GEO? I am unfamiliar with your use of the term GTO. I don't think you're discussing Pontiac's either. So please clarify if possible.
14. and voting for Nader
Ralph ran for POTUS 4 times. 1996, 2000, 2004 and 2008. Noble, but quite frankly, a useless vote, as well as being over 20 years ago, so today's relevance is minimal. Now a true boomer would have voted for Pat Paulsen.
15. and protesting the 2003 invasion of Iraq,
I did too. But it was at that time, another example of the god awful failure republicans being in charge. Having said that, in comparison to today, was actually quite a competently fought war although it produced long lasting bad results. But, lets revisit Mid East Wars and bad results in a year or so.
16. and reading all those Naomi Klein books
You have good taste in literature.
17. and the theanarchistlibrary
Not my particular cup of tea, but nonetheless, interesting and informative reads.
18. and doing Occupy and mutual aid in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis,
Another good example of what happens when idiots elect republicans, but thankfully, we had Barack in place to steer the ship of recovery and got us back to "normal" rather quickly as well as the help your protests brought to the speedy recovery to the economy as well.
19. and building homes with Habitat for Humanity,
Excellent charity that does good work. Did you ever get a chance to hammer some nails with Jimmy?
20. and volunteering at food banks and The Hub,
Although we have been unable to volunteer time to help at various food banks, we contribute a rather nice sum every year. As for volunteering at the HUB, both my husband and I helped dozens of our displaced citizens with various FEMA applications and insurance claims, even having to literally drag some to the FEMA representatives who had been fed tons of misinformation, but did manage to help them secure every penny they were legally entitled to.
21. and wearing those pink pussy hats,
I did as well. But, sad to say, a few weeks after we adopted Barney, he found my pink pussy hat in the closet and shredded it into scraps of yarn. That little bastard does not care about anything.
22. helping move people out of Leilani in 2018 while developing the community lava map,
That was very helpful and thoughtful. See response number 20
23. and growing my own food,
As do we now fully retired and here in Hawaii full time. You should see my tomatoes, strawberries and zucchinis!!
24. and building my own solar system,
Building our own was a bit over our pay grade, but we did hire the highest recommended local Solar Man to install everything and it works like magic!
25. and buying almost exclusively used clothes and tech objects,
I was just at the brand new Hilo Goodwill today and scored some almost new excellent working in the yard and garden clothes and a cool table lamp. As well as having been a long time clothing, furniture and cash donator to Goodwill over the years. As for tech objects, I'm kind of hung between a rock and a hard place, as one of my retirement benefits from the law firm I worked for provides me with a new computer every 18 months at no charge, but is needed to ensure proper connection to the law firms proprietary networks and servers.
26. and advocating for legislation addressing human needs in Hawai'i,
I would love to hear how you are going about this, with whom and what you're proposing. I support this cause 100%.
27. and posting about and attending another several more recent protests,
As has Barney, my husband, several of our neighbors and myself.
28. but the opinion of some rando boomer online has really made me question my beliefs.
Well, your resume, again, while impressive, is rather outdated to today's world. I do however, question my beliefs in the human race when it has produced someone with your belief system. I am also not impressed with the incessant "You're better than me" underlying mantra of your belief system.
OK, enough for now! Off to watch tonight's episode of Bill!

randomq - I will attempt to replicate and confirm, sir.
Doing the Lord's work - godspeed to your heart, liver, digestive track, and DNA during your randomqized trials! ;) (see Archived version of Durian Fiend's NYT article.)
Durian Fiend - In response I'd like to point out Gen X can be blamed for electing the current administration. - https://williamfleitch.medium.com/why-di...5ce5ac8659
The problem with that article, and others like it, is that it includes the voting members of the ~20 million boomers born 1960 through 1964 in the totals and then calls them Gen X (can't even separate out the data, but we're the slackers - [cynical eye roll] ;)
The thing is Gen-X is just a smaller generation than both the Boomers and the Millennials, the latch-key middle children of history as Tyler Durden might say, so we're never going to be the predominate force in electoral politics, regardless how the percentages for any candidate break down (heard a lot of my compatriots skip on Harris because of her tacit "nothing will change" endorsement of the genocide in Gaza - which is a fair criticism, even if it misses the realpolitik issue of allowing a far worse option for Gaza into power). I think that's part of why many GenXers tend to be more into direct action because Reality Bites and most of the time things just need to get done.
@HJ - highlighting just the questions/differences:
Planting trees on Earth Day goes back to the first Earth Day in 1970 and was an annual tradition for being a kid in the 70s and 80s. Of course we plant/ed trees on other days as well, silly.
Farm Aid was mostly 80s awareness stuff as I was largely still a kid, so unable to travel or donate, although my family called in. Did you travel or donate to Willy and the boys? Same goes for boycotting South Africa over Apartheid (which your boy Musk and his family was/is all in on) - the point is that much of GenX were raised in a protest culture and environment, doubly so if you had hippie parents.
ELF - We've had this conversation before, but if the powers-that-be aren't going to take a stand and do what is right then other people have to. Much like anti-slavery movement, there are times what is right and what is the law diverge. (see Ethan Hawke (b. 1970) as John Brown in The Good Lord Bird or Robert Wilcox for more info)
Those rounds of antinuke sign waving mentioned were not at the Pohakuloa Training Area, but back on the mainland. As for "jazz hands", that's a practice that evolved out of Occupy as a way of quickly assessing consensus without having to interrupt the speaker. Bill could learn a thing or two from it, so his 2 minutes of material doesn't take 10 minutes to deliver because of the constant interruption of the trained seals in his audience.
As for "GTO", corrected, thanks. I put originally G7, and tried to correct to WTO (Seattle '99), but mangled it all up. Probably long term effects from too much tear gas. ;) Never met Jimmy, just hammered nails locally, but learned plenty skills that we brought with us here. I find HI Redemption centers to be the preferred source for clothes - buy by the pound, give to others as needed, and keep usable items out of the landfill.
HJ - Well, your resume, again, while impressive, is rather outdated to today's world.
Ok I'll bite, how? Having skipped over the tech side of related activities that I didn't bother to go into as few would understand or appreciate, what do I need to do to update my resume of skills in your vast opinion?

I'd say you need to update your resume at this moment, and state what protests, actions, sign waving, graffiti and property damaging actions, or book reading that you are going to do for the following:
A. Regulate AI before it wipes out humanity and earth. Musky's kiddie porn producing Grok is immaterial when unregulated AI takes every human's job, income and life way. And then launches a full scale nuclear war.
B. Recover American Democracy from the bottom of the 500 men construction site porta potty where it is in today.
C. No longer elect anybody in the Boomer or Gen X classification. Electing our government representation who mostly need to wear diapers is no longer a tenable situation.
Everything else from 2, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 50 years ago is no longer relevant.
I'd also make sure to watch "The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist" which is scheduled to be shown at the Prince Kuhio Plaza starting March 27, 2026.

Requiring an open mind here, but, before you test that wine, may I suggest just trying one of my Snoop Dogg/Martha Stewart Brownies. If you wanna really try it, two can do wonders for your mind, body and spirit!
Now, if it must be wine, and speaking of Snoop Dogg, then may I suggest this:
