No Dictators, No Tyrants Protests - March 28th in Hilo, Waimea, etc

You are absolutely correct RandomQ.  Good eye. I stand corrected. I fat fingered it. It was the Tuesday, November 5th, 2024 - No Tyrants Protest which was larger and more effective by orders of magnitude than Saturday's "joyful mob".

Good lookin' out.

"Well, with Hawai'i county and state looking to fill the holes left in their budgets from the federal cuts you voted for by taxing second/third/additional homes, best be prepared to pay a premium to get rained on."

I have a tiny house, I qualify as a full time resident and I'm about maxed out property tax breaks because I'm a senior citizen. My property tax was $330.00. They can only raise it by 3% per year.
I think I will survive.

Interesting. I don't know Hilo numbers one demonstration compared to another but an estimated 3,200 is a good crowd for little ol' no matter..

But what got me to wondering more so is your line.. the Tuesday, November 5th, 2024 - No Tyrants Protest which was larger and more effective by orders of magnitude than Saturday's.. which on the whole makes one ask.. how are we to measure effectiveness? Because, from here, it looks to me like yesterday's events, across the country, the whole world really, got if not more numbers, which I actually think they did, way more notoriety. Sheesh.. yesterday's protest got full coverage by all the news sources. And, in some places got so many more people than ever before it's remarkable.

My buddy, my business partner in my software development company, lives in Minnesota, and he txt'd pics from St Paul where it was estimated they got a turnout of over 200,000. And, just by that, I suspect yesterday's events were far more effective.. literally an order of magnitude more effective. So I'd love to hear how you think the opposite?

MyManao,
I think Punatang is trying to be subversively humorous by comparing the election turnout on that day to the No Kings protests yesterday.  That more people voted for the candidate who promised to lower the price of eggs, and make the cost of living in Puna and elsewhere more affordable by putting hundreds of thousands of people out of work.  One candidate received a large number of votes because he claimed the other candidate would lead us into war, but then he did that himself, and at last count it’s now cost more than any money saved by putting people out of work. You may also have noticed that Puna is less affordable by almost every measure than it was a year ago. You would think the voters hoodwinked by the shear number of lies they believed would have also attended the No Kings Rally in Hilo yesterday, holding up signs that said We Won’t Get Fooled Again but apparently with perhaps memory loss (?) it’s hard to recognize and recall they voted against their own supposed interests?

Or for some it could be TV hypnosis. “When I snap my fingers you’ll wake and won’t remember…”
The TV hosts never snap their fingers.

Fake news, Punatang. The only thing of greater magnitude that day were mail-in ballots, which I know you're not allowed to believe in anyway.

You know, Edge, I never caught the reference.. never put two and two together, grokked the date. I am so overwhelmed with this legalese I am wading through I feel as dense as a rock.. flat as a piece of wood.. 100 pages of gobbledegook to describe what was so much fun imagining, inventing, in the first place. Thanks for putting me to rights.

Can only raise it 3% per year, for now, but I agree, I don't think seniors with tiny homes are the fat cats they are after. Any solar on that tiny home Obie? Maybe a garden with a compost pile? #UnexpectedAllyship

Punatang - The "Out of the Mouths of Boomers" award goers to Peter Frost (72) of Hawaiian Paradise Park in Puna, who rolled up in a gas guzzling antique monster truck:
Yeah, your dictatorial federal rep is so despised by so many, it makes for some interesting political bedfellows. But as Peter's truck there did have both Purple Peace ☮ and Free Palestine 🍉 flags, as well as a chill doggo, many of us probably have plenty in common with him ideologically regardless of his mode of transport. Maybe he's a leading edge example of that woke petro collectivism ala Robert Evans' After the Revolution?

leilanidude - Where is all this fascism you are talking about?
While Umberto Eco's definition of fascism is useful, I always found Lawrence Britt's 14 Characteristics of Fascism clear and easy to understand.
  1. Powerful and Continuing Nationalism
  2. Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights
  3. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause
  4. Supremacy of the Military
  5. Rampant Sexism
  6. Controlled Mass Media
  7. Obsession with National Security
  8. Religion and Government are Intertwined
  9. Protection of Corporate Power
  10. Suppression of Labor Power
  11. Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts
  12. Obsession with Crime and Punishment
  13. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption
  14. Fraudulent Elections
If you can't easily identify an example going on for each of these points, then Hawai'i Senator Brian Schatz provided a pretty good warning call back in 2024: Senator Brian Schatz Explains What Donald Trump’s “Fascism” Would Mean for America

From Saturday's protest in Hilo:

It has been alleged that I am "angry," among other things, on other threads.

Maybe, if that's true, I am just paying attention?

Yes, totally 100% brother.  As far as I can tell, not having attended myself, "chill doggo" (who is huge by the way - bet that dude can pump some methane!) and Peter Frost (72) -in that order-  are the smartest carbon life-forms in the whole "joyful mob".  Love it.  The irony, Irony AK, is that you left out the irony of what he said and how concerned he naturally is about making sure everyone has plenty of fossil fuel - going forward.  Personally I'm much more concerned about fertilizer that is not getting through but maybe that big a__ doggo can help LOL.  Good stuff.  I like the protest.  It's clear people had a great time and were heard.

I promised Edge some classic Pikachu to hopefully try another way to break through the propaganda fog that manages to convince some that the ongoing Hawaii and specifically Big Island elections protest, is brought to us in the form of some "non-Native", "nefarious", conspiracy.  I won't hold my breath. Enjoy:

Speaking of some classic Pikachu, after reading this link below, I think I now understand exactly the "propaganda fog" Pikachu is under the influence of:

‘Billionaire’ arrested in Hamptons DUI bust | New York Post

And - NEW YORK CITY??? (Who remembers the old Pace Picante sauce commercial from the 90's?)

At any event, I for sure won't let him hold MY beer!
