The Weekly Update
Not good idea! A) Theyʻll just come back ready for more. B)) Occasionally, just occasionally any more, someone posts something interesting, useful, beautiful or funny. Iʻd like to see a heavier hand in first vacationing, then warning and then banning those who habitually break the rules, indulge in personal insults and make demands on simply those stating their opinions. Thereʻs only a handful of them. Or even easier, limit everyoneʻs posts to three times a day. At least that way we donʻt have to go through pages and pages of drivel on a single day.
Certainty will be the death of us.

Good idea.

Fundamentally, you won't control a poster who claims there is an excuse to kill people who don't share his opinion.

"Anyone that says that as an excuse for gluttonous selfish behavior.. in my book.. has forfeited any respect.. any right to exist.. and their life is worthless. I would rather an obscure salamander survive than them. I would rather share this life with a slug.. an ameba.. than folks that justify their greed that way. In fact, to be blunt, they are the enemy. And, before all is said and done, will be dealt with accordingly."

Later:

"So yeah, one AI pic equals one gram of CO2. That certainly sounds like no big deal.. to me it sounds like an excuse to kill."

Of course, if you think other posters reacting to that mean you put PW on a vacation, then fine, you go ahead and do that. To me, doing that would be both morally and ethically wrong and would imply you are in favor of MyManao's ideology and threats of violence. However, it's your forum, so you do what you want.

This may come as a shock to some, but in this case, I have to agree with Tom 100%.

That sounds to me like you are excusing the use of AI, saying 'why it only amounts to one gram of the heat trapping gas.. so it's ok.' As if to say adding a million grams, 10 millions grams, 100 million grams, a day as all sorts of people make images is ok... because each image is only creating one gram. When in fact we know the accumulative effect of our CO2 emissions is to kill. Is now killing off species, melting all the ice, warming the oceans, which in turn kills things. Coral bleaching, species displacement. You're in essence excusing the death of species for entertainment. As Roger waters so clearly pointed out, we're amusing ourselves to death.

The idea that some would twist all I said to imply I am saying it's an excuse to kill the AI users, is pathetic.

Good idea or good idea?

“When I use a word,’ Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, ‘it means just what I choose it to mean — neither more nor less.”

“The question is,” said Alice, “whether you can make words mean so many different things.”

IMHO it seems like a bad idea to let a few bad actors ruin things for everyone else, but take a look around - may just be a sign of the times.

While Rights of Nature haven't quite caught on yet in Hawai'i, other countries are taking steps to recognize humans are just one species of many and enact laws to enforce our moral responsibility towards other species and their habitats. To hand-wave the mass extinction event occurring so as to defend the ability to generate silly stupid AI cartoons is a particularly egregious form of self-centered short sightedness.

No twisting going on, and the attached post had nothing to do with AI; it was you responding to me writing that the planet isn't dying. The only person twisting things is you.

No one has twisted your words and claimed you want to kill AI users. Your claim appears to be that if someone claims the Earth isn't dying, their claim means they have no right to exist, and you then go on to imply they should be killed, given your follow-up post.

I'm beginning to think putting the whole PW on vacation for a few months might not be a bad idea.

Punaweb tends to come together during difficult times, hurricanes, lava eruptions, notifications about earthquakes and tsunamis.  We have what could be a busy hurricane season ahead of us, where your comments, links to favorite forecast sites, etc are a great benefit to all of us.

Are personal grievances more important than that?  We have a generally intelligent community of users here at Punaweb, smart enough to ignore personal attacks, if they choose to, and the temptation to reply.

Recognize when you might become the one to ruin it for all.  Whether comments that create discord are uninintentional or intentional (as seems to be the case occasionally) the potential result could be the same.

When temperatures rise, rise above it, become the wind shear - -
Strong upper level winds destroy the storms structure by displacing the warm temperatures above the eye and limiting the vertical accent of air parcels. Hurricanes will not form when the upper level winds are too strong.

I agree with most of that, but I would have a problem asking for help or giving it to someone who wants to kill everyone who doesn't share their opinion.

Then explain what you meant.  Several of us took it that way, and there was no twisting.

BTW, no one has said that they love AI or that they want everyone to use it.

I took it as a threat to potentially kill anyone who thought the planet would recover from human-induced climate change. I'm not surprised others took it differently, as it may have come across as threatening AI users. No matter what, MyManao's posts threaten people who hold views different from his, and not a damn thing has been done about it. Because of that, MyManao is attempting to twist things himself while accusing others of twisting his words. How this is acceptable on PW is beyond me.
