Do we really need a "reminder?"
#1
I am amazed that our local media has to publish this as a news story and title it as a "reminder." but, here we are:

Police remind motorists to drive sober this Fourth of July weekend : Big Island Now

Hawaiʻi Police Department officers so far in 2026 arrested 382 motorists for driving under the influence on Big Island roadways, and 15 fatal crashes claimed the lives of 17 people on Hawaiʻi Island.

“Behind every number is a family, a friend and a community forever changed,” said a release from Hawaiʻi Island police.

You would think people would get the message by now, but...

As a forgetful person I appreciate the reminder that this weekend typically sees a high incidence of drunk driving, therefore it's best to limit car time.

Drinkers should take heed that the cops will be looking for them on the road.

I always thought the best parties were the ones where everyone crashed (not literally!) at the host's house, and went out for a greasy breakfast together the next morning! Sometimes those turned into multi-day parties...

Have fun and be safe everyone!

Yes, we all really do need a reminder.  Contrary to what some might believe, the pool of drivers is not static.  There are new drivers hitting the roads every day.  Some are young, some are late bloomers, and some come from places where things work differently.  Reminders are good.  Intoxicated and/or distracted drivers are bad.  Reminders inspire these conversations, obviously. Good.

Wishing everyone an amazing 250th Birthday.

Remember to stay hydrated.

I guess some do need a reminder to not drink and drive an automobile.

But, if we're going to issue reminders to those forgetful or just too dumb to not remember to not drink and drive, let's make the reminder one with some "punch." Like a hard kick in the gonads type of punch. One that, even if you're Puna drunk, it hits you and it hits you hard.

Maybe, you might just remember?

But ask your cat first.  He might have a good reason:
