Incidentally, Shannon "Smiley" Burrows is also running in District 4; I just saw a campaign sign.
Wanted to throw her name in there as well...not to pot-stir, but just to make sure everyone is aware.

I don't know her, personally, only have seen her around town and know she owns the land nearby 4 Corners where Green Lake was.

Hawaii State House District 4
Hawaii State Senate District 4

He asked for people not to make negative comments in that link.
Not making negative personal comments or attacks in any thread is a good idea.

I didn't even think of that. Just like I know Eileen O'Hara is also running in Dist 4 (and I do know her sorta), but I didn't even think about all the different races to put each candidate in the proper place.
I need to stay outta politics, lol! (But I will still vote!) ;-D

According to Tam's Facebook page, Greggor was a no show at last week's town hall at HPP for the Puna Council, House and Senate candidates.

According to posts made by others, Greggor has also not responded to any invite to debate Tam and has been a no show at other events when Tam was present.
Being fair, Joy did not appear but did have a representative there on her behalf.

the cost of electricity generation on island
Is not the most significant thing when it comes to our actual bill. We, Hawaii island, have a very large grid, with a very small overall population. As such, if we were to measure our costs not by the actual creation of, but rather the distribution, then our's is, if not the highest nationally, damn close.
We can talk about the effect of the cost of gathering the raw materials, and the cost of running a power plant, but unless we factor into our considerations the cost of our grid we are missing the overall burden of those that supply us.
I think saying the oil comes from, and is refined wherever, and we could do this and that alternatively, is just energy porn. Just excuses.. look ma I know what I am talking about. Whereas talking about the cost of poles and wires and maintaining and upgrading, is boring. And wholly overlooked. But it has a far larger impact on the overall cost than anyone seems up to acknowledging. And will continue to do so no matter where the energy comes from.
I still think (ie, in my opinion) Tam is about as good as a snake oil salesman. He doesn't know what he's talking about, has no experience, and when confronted with any kine pushback becomes childishly hostile and impatient. He would be a failure as Puna's political representative at the state legislature.
As an aside.. I have a friend who is currently serving her third term on our county council. I once asked her if she had aspirations for state wide office and her reply was enlightening. She said no. When I came back with why she offered that to be a part of either the legislature or senate would be too restricting. As a council member she has a handful of fellow members that she has to work things out with and it's personal and over time all sorts of stuff can be done. As a state representative, she posited, she'd have to work within the framework of a much larger body and make more concessions long before she'd be able to get traction for her own concerns. And even then there's too many opposing interests to get anything done on a regular basis.
I do not think that is an environment Tam is suited for.

There are farms and ranches on the mainland, one house on hundreds or thousands of acres, electric lines connected to the next house a mile away, the next another mile… talk about a large grid with few customers.
And yet, they pay less per kWh than Big Island HECO customers.

MM: "when confronted with any kine pushback (Tam) becomes childishly hostile and impatient." When/where was this? Pushback from whom? On more than one occasion?

Cost of land, cost of labor, cost of materials.. cost of the Jones act.. there's a gazillion ways the costs of transmission for the guy in the heartland is cheaper no matter.. the cost of a gallon of milk. Pole for pole it's off the scale here compared to there..
kalianna, try having some one on one time with him, it's an eye opener. He doesn't seem to have the capacity to be wrong.

Mahalo. Iʻm still making up my mind but in my limited conversations with him, well before he ran for office, this doesnʻt surprise me.
