Tam Hunt - PGV Statement
(07-18-2026, 09:27 PM)Punatang Wrote: Whenever someone adapts to new information..

What "new information" might Tam be adapting to regarding such a fundamental, and long standing, issue as the viability of geothermal at the PGV plant?

The only thing I can imagine is he got the notion he wasn't going to get the HPP vote so moved south in hopes the space cadets might offset whatever losing the wage earning tax payer's might have cost him.

But please, maybe you can help me see otherwise. What "new information" are you referring to?

Whenever someone adapts to new information, fact checkers examining a tiny 3- week timeline

It’s great when anyone discovers new information and considers changing their stance on a topic.  But if one of the factors taken into account is cost, first geothermal is the most cost effective, then new information, solar and wind magically becomes cheaper, and preferable, it sounds more like throw it at the wall, see what sticks, rather than research.  Unless cost factors have changed substantially for entire power generation sectors in three weeks?

No other technology on this island can provide comparable firm baseload renewable capacity at comparable cost. The Robust scenario calls for expansion to 60 MW." (Tam Hunt - June 17th, 2026)

I'm not going to waste my time explaining the numbers and percentages and MH vs GWh as if you don't know what that is at this point in your lives, there's no further help I can give, but, having said that, I love how the most important thing Tam said on his June 17th blog, and was said numerous times, but conveniently left off and not mentioned was the caveat of "This is still a DRAFT plan that we have not fully vetted with others. So for now it remains my personal work only."

As for what Tam has said in his July 12th blog, with respect to PGV & Geothermal in general, is all essentially the same. If you can understand math, percentages and numbers that is.

I look forward to all the personal insults the knuckle dragging mouth breathers will inevitably throw my way now. Off to change my diapers!

And in the meantime, has anyone heard from Greggor lately? At least we got Mitch's proof of life pic.

Russell Ruderman has endorsed Tam. That holds a lot of sway with me since Russell, also entering as an outside, has been there, done that, although Russell was previously a successful business owner and far more humble and soft-spoken. I havenʻt seen much about what Tam had been doing in the community before his election campaign other than being an environmental lawyer.

Just more AI generated slop..

I think when it was pointed out that we really need to be leery of AI slop and Tam's response to it being pointed out to him that he is regurgitating AI slop with his now classic..

"I won't be engaging further with you on this b/c you clearly don't know what you're talking about"

My choice was made. Not that I live in the 4th, but then neither does his most ardent supporter here at the PW Bar 'n Grill. And still, in the sport of it all, I would way rather support what seems a level headed and unaffected by the latest and greatest bauble (isn't that what all this ai nonsense really is.. bauble?).. rather than some guy hustling folks with flip flopping contrary ideas from one blog post to the next (thanks Yak for doing the homework).

Really, were there even a semblance of constancy, of an actual moral stance, or even just a factual basis upon which the guy stood maybe. But all the noise, all the reams of AI gibberish.. it's really hard to find even a morsel of an actual person in all that. He's on par with 'Tangs missing ballots. It's all vaporware. Which makes the flesh and blood reality of his opponent extremely appealing, long before one even gets to anything about ideas and one stance verses another..

In other words I would suggest one vote Democrat, votes for mature even tempered, truth speaking flesh and blood. And, not be swayed by all the bling.

Well, suffice it to say he was not the first to tell you that and won't be the last.

And speaking of AI slop, you gleefully cut and paste an AI slop piece that refers to Tam as a woman and then get indignant when I call the source of that AI slop what it is - AI slop.

At any event, someone else mentioned Greggor served in the National Guard. Which, is admirable. But as was also pointed out, part time. On the other hand, no one made any mention that Tam is an Army Veteran. Knowing Tam and reading his writings, he does not really mention that service all too much but has become a fierce fighter for Veteran's rights, benefits and causes.

Nonetheless MM, your opinion and my opinion of which candidate is best for the House District 4 election, of which, neither of us can vote for, is equal in every respect, no matter how many times you try to craftly wordsmith those subtle all the way up to blatant attempts at personal insulting digs and attempts to try and ridicule me over my opinion just shows your true and only character.

Talk about Whip-lash.  Seems like just last week folks were saying things like:

Someone posted:  Tam at least seems to know his stuff, which is good given he's running for Hawaii House District 4. Here are his complaints about how little HPP gets for all the taxes it pays, and along with his EV advocacy, seems like PrimalEdge is either running for office or has a kindred spirit rep.

Someone else posted: And finally, while I do find Tam Hunt’s ideas and proposals simpatico, as to any personal political ambitions I can only paraphrase Lyndon Johnson "I shall not seek, and I will not accept, the nomination of any party for a term in any public office.

Yet another poster posted this about a white dude: I wish Tam luck, but hear his words, the ideas you all have shared of his, and hear exuberance and zeal, which is tempered by my memories of those that have taken that ride before him.

Seems almost as if the discovery of Tam's oft published penchant for liberty and real science, has caused some to flip-flop their stances.  Fair.

I have noted in several places that I thought Tam has some good ideas.  When he changes his stance on geothermal, that’s a deal breaker.  Question:  when a candidate flip flops on his position, and a voter then adjusts their opinion of that candidate, is the voter staying true to their beliefs, or is it fair to describe that as a flip flop?

If a tree falls in forest, will anyone hear… a voter who said the tree was standing when it stood, but had fallen after it fell?

Somehow I just knew that our strange PW bed full of fellows (and fellettes) wouldn't last.

Hope you at least got some popcorn before you bailed - it's really good.  Big Grin

"Protect and expand PGV. Geothermal at 88% capacity factor is the irreplaceable foundation of the island’s clean energy system. The PGV repower EIS should be approved and expedited. No other technology on this island can provide comparable firm baseload renewable capacity at comparable cost. The Robust scenario calls for expansion to 60 MW." (Tam Hunt - June 17th, 2026)

to:

"Where I Stand on Geothermal and PGV: No further expansion, and no new drilling in Lava Zone 1. Beyond the repower regulators have already approved, new generation on this island should be solar, wind, and storage — cheaper, safer, cleaner, and not sitting on an active rift zone." (Tam Hunt - July 12th, 2026)

In the whole context of both blog postings, and I will state that Tam may have said what he said somewhat confusingly, but what I read what Tam is initially saying is to protect and expand the CURRENT PGV to the 60MW repower plan, which requires no new wells, which is also awaiting approval, to him being against any further expansion requiring new wells at PGV as well as anywhere else in Zone 1, nor taking on the nonsense DHHL is trying to hitch their wagon to by, yeah, getting the sappy taxpayer to fork over another 15 million to explore more geothermal all over God's Green Hawaii.

So, I ask, taken in total context, what changed? What is the flip flop?

Now, what does Greggor say about this? Anybody? Greggor? You out there?
