Hurricane season 2026
Nor will you ever see the name Iniki ever used again.

Current NHC prediction is 6-12 inches of total rainfall for most of Puna from the next storm. How accurate will that be? Have to wait a Round Two C on Sunday as to what the Moke is going to do.

At least plenty of sun today and maybe some tomorrow to finish drying off and wrapping up any other outside projects. Happy Aloha Friday!

I remember the week I spent in L.A. waiting for a flight to the southeast U.S. after Katrina struck. Very memorable storm in the list of famous and not so famous storms whose names were retired by the US Meteorological Service. Number one on the [hands-on] list of top ten hurricanes was Gloria.

A 3-story oak tree fell on my driveway in 1985, and the only power tool I had in my inventory was a Toro electric chainsaw.

But… that tool came out in like 2015? ??‍♂️

Has anyone with one of the more modern electric battery chainsaws put it to the test in a proper Puna downpour? After all, if you're not clearing trees in board shorts and slippahs in the rain, like some local legends recently, are you even really living the Puna lifestyle?

Thank you for your knowledge of tools. An electric (AC) saw is mightier that a battery powered tool. It takes up to four batteries for a Makita 18 v saw to take down a few Areca palm trees. That's my experience. Even a Home Depot Ryobi chainsaw is stronger. When in Puna, I recommend 20 batteries for a one week electricity outage. Twice that amount if you live in Leilani Estates. Hope you get power before Moke strikes.

I've had a plug-in Craftsman chain saw since the 1980's. and you can still buy one today.

I have used and burned up at least 2 battery powered pole saws. The Puna rain doesn't seem to bother them much but cutting down hundreds of autograph trees eventually does them in.

Plug in to what, a home outlet? No thanks, due to limited range of use.

12 gauge wire is probably large enough for the extension cord(s)?  Especially since it’s not running constantly.
