Okay this isn't free shipping but I thought this thread was close enough.
I was adding livestock gates to my Home Depot cart and as usual it was giving me the option of delivery and I was wondering... what's the size limit? (I've been thinking about selling our truck) so I added a heavy 12 foot steel gate. It bumped the delivery charge from $35 to $79. It was delivered the next day by Island Movers using a box truck. So while it's not "free", it's cheaper than paying insurance and registration on a pickup truck. I was using a $75 off coupon so it gave me the illusion it was almost free. In case anybody is wondering: Home Depot gives a delivery window between 6am-8pm, with option to narrow that down to a four hour window for an additional $20. I'm pretty sure that Island Movers works more like 8-5. I got the "out for delivery" notification at about 8am. At 10:45 they called me and said they were about 20 minutes away. About 20 minutes later they were here. There were other orders in the truck, so delivery time is going to depend on location and where the other orders are delivered to. Home Depot also said it was curbside only, and any additional movement was an extra charge, but they were perfectly willing to put the gates into our yard without paying extra. I'm not sure how their delivery charges work. I've had some items delivered for free, and others had a small charge. This was the first one that was a two-man job. Although they weren't "gig workers", I tipped them anyway.

Regarding ShipToHawaii…
I used shiptohawaii rate quote page to price a dehumidifier that Amazon won’t ship to Hawaii. 37 lbs, 16x15x16. Was quoted $199 with no indication of the shipping method. https://www.pirateship.com/rates Showed rates from shiptohawaii CA warehouse 90301 to 96778 ranging from $177 (ground adv) to $316 (priority) for commercial shipping with several UPS options in between. Not worth it for a $160 item on Prime Day sale, but shiptohawaii doesn’t look any better than having my sister in WI forward me a package that won’t ship to Hawaii from the vender… === Even with more items coming up unavailable to Hawaii these days, Amazon Prime is still an incredible value IMO. I had two 100lb -galvanized- propane tanks and eight 40lb tanks shipped free several weeks ago (and 9 arrived!). I believe Amazon added those items to the unavailable list lately though. Nevertheless, Amazon Prime is even more of a value in Hawaii than the mainland when factoring in shipping IMO. Hawaii is a LONG way from California. eBay is fine for lighter stuff but usually Ground advantage. Lowe’s and Costco have very reasonable UPS shipping surcharges in many items, if not free. And Home Depot ship to store for pick up has been great for some esoteric chimney stuff as well as large pack snap to tiles, etc. Years back I found that even stuff Home Depot says not available for Hawaii can be shipped to store if you order in person at the Pro counter. Dunno if that is still the case. Of course, I don’t know if a particular eBay seller is a Hitler lover or a Bernie Sanders millionaire socialist or a pedo. Don’t even know if Home Depot, Lowe’s, Target, Walmart, Sportmans, or Menards (horrible shipping) for that matter, pass the slime test used on Amazon and Starlink. But Costco is kosher, I assume. No? Cheers, Kirt

Ace Hardware has a rare sale on Ego batteries, more or less. The individual batteries are still heinously priced, but when bundled are about the best deal I’ve seen. For example, the 2.5 amp battery is $199, the cheapest string trimmer also $199, but buy together and they’re $140 total. 4 amp battery with leaf blower is a good deal too. Pick up at any Big Island Ace store. Sale ends today according to their email. |
