Tree Trimmer prices needed
#1
Wow, with this wind storm going off, I'm a bit worried. My yard has been covered over the past several days with Albezia debris from neighbor's yard. I'm so worried about neighbor's trees coming down on my roof. His trees are starting to hang over my master bedroom!

So my question this morning is, has anybody had their trees removed lately? I need to know the going price these days to remove an Albezia tree? Plus the name of some good tree trimmers would be helpful too!

a million mahalos,

Roger

We have gotten several quotes lately to take down our one big, big Albezia tree and they range from $9,000 to $20,000. . . yikes. I've heard good things about Da Puna Pruna and my husband really liked him when he came to see the tree. We've not had the work done yet, so can't give a personal recommendation.

Gloria,

I'd give Allan Lang a chance to quote on taking down your monster albezia. (Phone# listed in James' response above)

Thanks, I appreciate the information. We'll give him a call. We've had three quotes so far. It really is a monster.

I had some fairly big Albezia's cut down a few months ago. These trees could easily have taken out a neighbors house if they came down improperly so I expected the job to be expensive. I got quotes from several tree trimming firms and eventually settled on Big Island Tree Service in Papaikou (326-1222 in Puna). The cost to me was in the mid 4 figures. Contact me directly if you want more exact # and I have photographs of the trees.

One piece of advise is to check with the state Professional and Vocational Licensing web site here: http://pvl.ehawaii.gov/pvlsearch/app
It will tell you whether you are dealing with a licensed contractor and their status with liability and workman's compensation insurance. I am not a lawyer but I would be concerned about being in the line of fire if you use an unlicensed company/individual and a tree he was cutting down fell on a neighbor's house.

Anybody with common sense can take down a tree in a open field. It takes real experts with the right equipment in close quarters and it will be reflected in the cost.

I have had treeworks do some heavy cutting, dropping and pruning. I had cheaper prices elsewhere but they lacked any insurance. Treeworks did a very professional job, did it safely and I was comforted to know they had adequate coverage in the event something went wrong.

Dropping trees is dangerous work and it is not always possible to say "don't worry, nothing will happen".
Assume the best and ask questions.
