Volcano acting up

It looks like it is heading south toward the ocean again. I am still on the Mainland and watching this all from afar. I am looking at a home on Kawakawa to possibly buy. Seeing the flow moving away from the Puna area and maybe heading back to the ocean would be great. Thanks Haole.

Glen and Michael seem to have the most akamai response. Big Island is not for the faint of heart, that said, the earth plane is impermanent, right? Certainly on the mainland you could lose your home in a tornado, a forest fire, mudlslides, etc etc. We just have our own slant on impermanence here, and hope for the best. As Glen says, be vewwy vewwy quiet -LOL

Reading today's update (11/10), I'm not seeing that the lava is turning south. What I'm reading is that they know a northern tube is active but the magma hasn't broken out yet. And even if the "east tube" is spilling over to the south, the most active tube is still to the east. But I'm no geologist, please correct my reading ...
"Activity Summary for last 24 hours: The perched channel continued to feed seeps and tubes. The most active area was where the east tube fed several pahoehoe flows advancing slowly eastward in the vicinity of Pu`u Kia`i. Activity Summary for the past few months: Lava erupted from the 7/21 fissures is probably fed from a shallow magma storage area beneath Pu`u `O`o where it degasses before being erupted. In September and October, the channel system continued to produce lava flows that were shorter than those erupted during August causing the area covered by 7/21 flows to get wider in the northwest-southeast direction but not longer in the northeast direction. In late October, tube-fed pahoehoe flows developed and advanced along the north and south margins of the flow field. In the last few weeks, the east tube has produced pahoehoe flows along the south margin that advanced nearly as far to the east as the August flows before stalling. The east tube remains the most active one. Last 24 hours at 7/21 eruption site: ... (edited to highlight relevant portion) Lava was entering the east tube inlet which was feeding several east-moving pahoehoe flows in the vicinity of Pu`u Kia`i (see map). One north-going tube inlet was observed to have no lava entering it but scattered incandescence in the webcam indicated that a north-going tube remained active (probably inflating) but not producing any breakouts. There must be two tube inlets on the north side and the active one must be out of view. Seep-fed flows were still active producing slow-moving flows on the north and south flanks of the channel."

Nope. That's my reading, too. They are really not quite sure what is going on with the tubes snaking North. They know its active (incandescence), though. This is a slow spreading mess that is creating little hyrda-headed tubes that go every which way. Getting some seismic activity, too. Looking on the cheerful side of things (for those optimists on Railroad!), nothing is happening too quickly and the advance is very incremental, unfocused and slow as molasses in January --or slow as molasses that has just entered a nice warm tube.
But if it continues, I think this one is going to go everywhere but West.

Carrie, This seemed to be a recent addition to the site, but I don't know if it was after the 'bunny ears' wall collapse or before, it may even be a bunny bit bigger...

 when looking at the size of the crater/vent/channel 'cause it's ALL lava up there...I guess I thought that Pu'u O'o was about 1/2 the size it is...man! When I check the earthquake map, its hard to find a pattern. Today, Hilo had a quake! The Hamakua coast, Kona area are active. When its centered around the park or in the ocean, I'm not so concerned, but when there's a series of quakes down the faultline to Kapoho, I'll be packing (my Nanawale stuff)!

Michael, I completely understand, nicely put. I guess we'll just keep our eye on things. It's not changing our minds however, my husband and I still have our eyes on one house; we are just waiting for ours to sell here. Time can't come soon enough for us to be able to make an offer. Anyone want to move to AZ? LOL
